Hope you are all enjoying this beautiful Fall weather! It is a great time to continue to plant bushes, etc. sooo they are ready for Spring! I have 3 shrubs I need to get in the ground this weekend. It gives them time to take root before they have to worry about growing in the Spring!
Soo if you have shrubs that need planted get out there this weekend and do it!

OK since the weather outside is frightful, it is the perfect time to work on the inside of your home! David and I love riding motorcyles and we ride every chance we get, sooo remodeling usually gets done in the winter or just before Thanksgiving!
I love remodeling "HighHeel Dreams, on a ShoeString Budget"! We just remodeled our bedroom. The room had beige walls and the uglest orange carpet you have ever seen! Trust me it was in the house when we bought it. We used a medium grey, almost a slate grey on the walls, Elephant grey, which is a dark grey for the carpet color. we checked around for good deals on carpet, we checked actually carpet stores, found the stainmaster carpet we were looking for. We were walking around Lowe's one day buying something else and found the exact same carpet at almost half the cost, plus Installation was only $99.00. The company that installed were very nice. The two men that installed it were great! The older man had over 30 years experiance. We kept his name so we could ask for him when we do the next room. We trimmed it out with white woodwork and white crown moulding! Love it! Love it! Love it!
Our furniture was brown and there was nothing wrong with it, soo there was no need to buy new! Saved a ton of money there. David painted it Black, we moved the dresser mirror to the side instead of the middle. We took a couple small tables from another room, painted them Black to use as bedside tables. I found a curtain on clearance that was white with black random lines thru it, cut it in smaller pieces to fit the bedside tables and the dressers. We did have to buy David a new dresser, we found a really nice one in black, on sale at walmart.com We have his & her closets, so we put white 6 panel doors (bought on sale at Menards) on them. We bought an awesome Retro Light/Ceiling Fan in Black & Chrome, also from Menards.
We have a sliding glass door in the room, so we decided to do floor to ceiling window/door treatments. Bed, Bath & Beyond had awesome Black with just a hint of grey in them, Room Darkening Curtains. They were on Clearance for a third the price, so that was even better! I love clearance! I added two white see thru curtains that we already had.
Shannon and I went to Ikea and found the perfect curtain rod in black and two abstract funky wall panels that you put together, to hang above the bed. The plan is to put small lights behind them, haven't gotten that done yet.
We topped the room off with black & white striped sheets, solid black & white bed skirt, an awesome white comforter, pillow shams that has black lines that make flower designs. Added two solid black throw pillows, white canvas wall art with saying written in black on one wall, flat screen TV and called it a day!
We love our new room and we did it on a "ShoeString Budget". You do not have to spend an arm & a leg to create a whole new look. What is interesting to me, people believe that using darker colors on wall makes the room look smaller. I do not feel that way! I think our room actually looks bigger, plus something as simple as moving our bed to the opposite wall made it look bigger. The grey on the wall just pops!!
The room looks amazing, it did not cost a fortune, it just took alot of time & hard work! We knew what we wanted, kept our eye out for sales, bought things a little at a time and the results were just what we were looking for. YOU CAN DO IT TOO!

Ok everyone, I can not believe it, but in the next couple of weeks it will be time again to think about dividing your plants to get them set for winter. They will start slowing down pretty soon, so this is the perfect time. I hope to start ours in the next couple of weeks!

Wow it has been awhile since I posted on here. I just looked and the last time I posted, I wanted the rain to stop and this time.....I want it to rain and rain somemore.
When it comes to planting Hosta, most people believe you can only plant them in the shade. Not true, I have Hosta planted in the shade and in full sun (they are the same kind of Hosta) and they do well in both places. I think the key is in the sun they just need to be watered more and mulched. I think that really helps them.

I can not wait for all of this rain to stop, it is the perfect tie to be out there dividing and transplanting! My Hosta are a perfect size to transplant......so who'll stop the rain?

04/19/2011

Once this rain gets under control at least the ground should be soft enough to get plants out easy so you can get them transplanted! Remember now is the time to cut and divide them. My goal is to get ours under control before it gets too hot out to work in the garden.

04/17/2011

This is also a great time to start to divide and transplant you ornamental grasses. If your Hosta are tall enough you can divide and transplant them too. Doing this now will ensure you have a beautiful garden all year long!

This is a great time to repot your inside plants into bigger pots, change the soil out to Miracle Grow potting soil, it feeds the plants for 6 months and helps keep the soil moist!

Won't be long until we are all working on our flowers! You gotta love it! Do not get it in a big hurry to cut back plants. I have over 25 rose bushes and I always wait until they start showing new growth, then I cut them back just above it! Even if we get an early Spring, they are still subject to freezing. You do not want plants trying to grow too soon and then get hit by frost!

Don't forget if you have an empty home on the market to check that outside water faucet for drips. One of my Sellers had a drip and it built up during the cold weather, he was lucky he caught it and it did not bust his pipes.
