🟦 June is PTSD Awareness Month 🟦

Not all wounds are visible.

For millions of Americans, and far too many veterans, first responders, and trauma survivors, the battle doesn't end when the deployment, emergency, accident, or crisis is over.

PTSD can affect every part of a person's life.

Sleep becomes difficult.

Relationships become strained.

Anger, anxiety, hypervigilance, isolation, depression, and emotional numbness can quietly take hold.

Many suffer in silence because they believe nobody understands.

But PTSD is not a sign of weakness.

It is a normal response to abnormal experiences.

The reality is this:

Seeking help is strength.

Talking about trauma is strength.

Choosing healing is strength.

At Camp Valor Adventure Healing, we know that recovery doesn't happen through isolation. Healing happens through connection, purpose, community, and belonging.

This PTSD Awareness Month, we encourage you to:

✔️ Check in on a fellow veteran or first responder.
✔️ Reach out if you're struggling.
✔️ Spend time outdoors.
✔️ Connect with people who understand.
✔️ Remember that healing is possible.

You do not have to fight this battle alone.

Every day, veterans and first responders prove that courage isn't the absence of struggle, it's continuing to move forward despite it.

If you're hurting, reach out.

Someone would rather listen to your story today than wonder why they never got the chance.

Your Battle. Our Mission.

The world grows quieter once again as another sacred voice from the Greatest Generation fades into history. 🕊️🇺🇸

Camp Valor Adventure Healing honors the life and legacy of John Kinsel Sr., one of the last surviving Navajo Code Talkers of World War II, who has passed away at 107 years old.

During some of the fiercest battles in the Pacific, including Iwo Jima, John Kinsel Sr. used the Navajo language to transmit coded messages the enemy could never break. Those words became a lifeline for United States Marines fighting through chaos, fear, and war.

He served with quiet courage, humility, and unwavering duty.

Like so many from his generation, he rarely called himself a hero. But history tells a different story.

The Navajo Code Talkers helped change the course of World War II while carrying the weight of sacrifice long after the war ended. Their voices, culture, and courage became one of the most extraordinary stories in American military history.

Now another one of those voices is gone.

Another Marine from the Pacific has slipped into memory.
Another firsthand witness to World War II has fallen silent.

Rest peacefully, Marine.

Your legacy will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

Today, Camp Valor Adventure Healing honors the memory of U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal Raul Bravo and every service member who gave their life in defense of this nation.

Raul and I served together. Like so many Marines, he carried himself with courage, loyalty, and a willingness to stand beside his brothers no matter the cost. He was taken far too soon, but his memory continues to live on through those who knew him and served beside him.

Memorial Day is not just about remembering names. It is about remembering the people behind them, the laughter, the sacrifice, the friendships, and the empty seats left behind.

Today, we remember Raul.
We remember all of the fallen.
And we carry them with us always.

Semper Fi, Marine.

Today, Camp Valor Adventure Healing honors the memory of Lance Corporal Torrey Gray, United States Marine Corps.

Torrey was not just a Marine. He was our brother. We served together in the same unit during some of the hardest days of the Iraq War, and his courage, loyalty, and selflessness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

On April 11, 2004, during combat operations near Fallujah, LCpl Gray gave his life while protecting a fellow Marine under enemy fire. His actions reflected the very best of what it means to wear the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor.

This Memorial Day, we remember Torrey and every service member who never made it home. Their sacrifice was not political. It was personal. It was real. And it is something we carry with us for the rest of our lives.

For those of us who served beside them, Memorial Day is not about a long weekend. It is about faces we still remember, voices we still hear, and brothers and sisters we wish were still here.

At Camp Valor Adventure Healing, Memorial Day is more than a holiday. It is a solemn reminder that freedom has always carried a cost paid for by men and women who never made it home.

Today, we honor those who answered the call, wore the uniform, and gave everything for this country. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to something greater than themselves continue to inspire our mission every single day.

We remember the fallen.
We stand beside their families.
And we carry their legacy forward through service, healing, and unwavering support for our veteran community.

May we never forget the price that was paid for the freedoms we enjoy today.

This Memorial Day weekend, Camp Valor Adventure Healing honors the life and sacrifice of United States Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Sean P. Maher of Gurnee, Illinois.

Lance Cpl. Maher served with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was killed in action on February 2, 2005, in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was just 19 years old and only days away from coming home.

Sean was one of the many young Marines who answered the call during a time of war, willingly stepping into danger alongside his fellow Marines in defense of this nation. Like so many from that generation, he carried burdens and responsibilities far beyond his years.

For those who served, names like Sean are never forgotten. They are the Marines we stood beside, laughed with, suffered with, and trusted with our lives. The bond between Marines does not end when the war does, and neither does the memory of those we lost.

This Memorial Day, we remember Lance Cpl. Sean P. Maher and all those who gave everything in service to our country. Their sacrifice continues to live on through the families, friends, and Marines who carry their stories forward.

Today, Camp Valor Adventure Healing honors the life and sacrifice of United States Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Brian A. Escalante, a fellow Marine and platoon mate.

Lance Cpl. Escalante, 25, of Dodge City, Kansas, served with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom. On February 17, 2007, while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, he was killed when a remote-controlled improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee. Four other Marines were wounded in the attack.

For those of us who served beside him, Brian was more than a name on a memorial wall. He was one of ours. A brother in the platoon. One of the Marines you laughed with, suffered with, and trusted with your life.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were fought by young Americans carrying enormous weight at a very young age. Men like Brian answered the call without hesitation and gave everything in service to this country.

As Memorial Day approaches, we remember Lance Cpl. Brian Escalante and every service member who never made it home. Their sacrifice lives on through the Marines and families who continue to carry their memory forward.

This Memorial Day weekend, Camp Valor Adventure Healing honors the life and sacrifice of United States Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Gary Lee Gillard , a Marine, a patriot, a husband, a father, and family.

Staff Sgt. Gillard served with Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division during the Vietnam War. On May 15, 1969, in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam, he was killed in action at just 24 years old during heavy combat operations against North Vietnamese forces.

Gary was more than a name etched into the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. He was a son, a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, and one of the many Marines who answered the call during one of America’s most difficult wars.

As Marines, we understand that freedom has always come at a cost paid by ordinary young men asked to do extraordinary things. Memorial Day is not just about barbecues or long weekends. It is about remembering men like Staff Sgt. Gary Lee Gillard and every service member who never made it home.

This weekend, we pause to honor his courage, his sacrifice, and the family he left behind. His legacy continues to live on through those who carry his name, his blood, and his story.

Today, we remember Lance Cpl. Holly A. Charette, the first female Marine killed in Iraq.

Holly, along with several other female Marines, was attached to our unit during operations in Fallujah. We would routinely convoy across the city to pick them up and bring them back to base at night. One of those convoys was hit returning to base.

Holly was remembered by those who knew her as fierce, brave, and passionate. A former high school cheerleader from Cranston, Rhode Island, she was deeply impacted by the attacks on 9/11 and chose to enlist in the United States Marine Corps.

“She chose the Marines because it was the hardest.”

That statement says everything about who she was.

Serving in Fallujah in 2005, Holly worked at entry control points helping secure the area during one of the most dangerous periods of the war. On June 23, 2005, at just 21 years old, Holly and fellow Marines were killed when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near their convoy vehicle.

Those of us who served during that time remember the constant danger of those roads, the unpredictability, and the sacrifices made by so many young Americans.

Today, Camp Valor Adventure Healing honors Lance Cpl. Holly Charette and all who gave their lives in service to this country. Their courage, sacrifice, and legacy will never be forgotten.

An honor to have served alongside Medal of Honor Recipient US Marine Corporal Jason Dunham. 🇺🇸

On April 14, 2004, while serving with 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines in Husaybah, Iraq, Cpl. Dunham and his unit came under attack. During the fight, an enemy gr***de landed near fellow Marines. Without hesitation, Dunham covered the gr***de with his helmet and body, absorbing the blast and saving the lives of those around him.

He succumbed to his wounds eight days later.

Corporal Jason Dunham embodied the very meaning of courage, sacrifice, and brotherhood. His actions remind us that the Medal of Honor is not simply awarded for bravery, it represents selfless love for others in the face of certain death.

As Marines, veterans, and Americans, we will never forget men like Jason. Their legacy lives on through every generation that continues to serve.

Semper Fidelis, Marine.
Rest easy.
