Your feedback is needed! ✍

We’re seeing increasing reports of restricted access, time-limited inspections, challenges to professional membership, and pressure to share reports via builder platforms.

The Residential Property Surveyors Association is gathering structured evidence to ensure we respond proportionately and strategically.

RICS signals a shift on home buying reform 🏡

RICS has formally responded to the UK Government’s Home Buying and Selling Reform consultation, signalling support for significant changes to how property information is provided in England and Wales. Including early searches and a professional whole-home condition report, to reduce delays, fall-throughs and consumer stress - Drawing on the Scottish model, it stresses reports must be delivered by qualified, regulated surveyors, with a clear lead-in period (at least 24 months) to avoid market disruption.

The message is clear: reform is welcome, but only if it’s professional, proportionate and properly implemented.

🚨 Home Buying & Selling Reform: A Wake-Up Call for Every Independent Surveyor

The Government’s new consultation isn’t “just another paper” - it signals a major shift toward a seller-driven single-survey model. And if Scotland is the blueprint, independent surveyors are the ones who stand to lose.

This is a pivotal moment for our profession; the RPSA is fighting hard but your voice in this consultation is essential.

🏗️ The UK residential construction sector is facing headwinds. Planning approvals are down, activity is slowing, and the workforce is feeling the impact.

While government initiatives aim to boost housing delivery, challenges remain:

🚰 Insufficient wastewater infrastructure

👷 A persistent skills shortage

🌱 Limited adoption of modular and sustainable technologies

A gradual recovery is forecast for the broader construction sector in late 2025—but tackling these structural issues will be key to building the homes the UK needs.

👉 What do you think will have the biggest impact on housing delivery in the next few years—policy, skills, or technology?

📉 The UK construction sector just recorded its steepest decline in activity since May 2020 — the height of the pandemic.

According to the latest S&P Global UK Construction PMI (released today, 6 August), July’s activity rating fell to 44.3, down from 48.8 in June — and well below the neutral 50 mark that signals stability.

This sharp downturn raises key questions about market confidence, project pipelines, and broader economic pressures.

🔍 What do you think is driving this slump — and how should the industry respond?
