Layering in interior design is a technique that involves combining different elements in a room to create depth, texture, and visual interest. Here's a tip: start with a base and build gradually. Begin with the foundational elements of the room such as the walls, flooring and large furniture. Choose neutral or cohesive base colors and materials. From there, layer smaller items like rugs, pillows, throws and artwork. Use varying textures, patterns and finishes to add richness and dimension. For instance, here's a living room where we paired a gray linen sofa with silk and chenille pillows in colours pulled from the eye catching artwork. We also added accessories like books and metallic accents. All together this creates a harmonious and inviting look while avoiding monotony.
