🌬️🏠 Embrace the Power of Air Source Heat Pumps! 🌿💨

Yesterday I shared my excitement for Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs). These amazing gizmos are transformational. But why am I so excited about them and how they work??

Think of an ASHP as a magical device that can capture heat energy from the air outside and bring it into your home, even when temperatures are well below freezing, keeping you warm and comfortable. Here's how:

1. Outside air is drawn in over a network of tubes filled with refrigerant gas, which circulates at -28°c to extract heat energy from the air outside.
2. The gas passes through a compressor which increases the pressure and temperature causing it to change from a cold gas to a hot liquid.
3. The compressed hot liquid passes into a heat exchanger that heats water for your radiator heating circuit. The refrigerant then turns this back into a cold gas and starts the cycle all over again.

So, in a nutshell, the ASHP takes the heat energy from the outside air and transfers it indoors, making your home warmer. A bit like an inside-out fridge, which is pretty cool, right?

Good to know:
🌡️🔥 Air source heat pumps work at a lower internal temperature than a gas or oil-fired boiler, so your radiators will not feel as warm - this is because they are now more efficient and don't need to be as hot. They will provide gentle heating over longer periods rather than quick boosts of heat on demand. Don’t worry, you will soon get used to the difference.

☀️❄️💨 The best part!?! ASHPs can also work in reverse during hot summer months. They can extract heat from inside your home and release it outside, effectively cooling your home.

🌡️💰 Superefficient: ASHPs are energy-efficient because they use a small amount of electricity to move the heat energy. They are up to 300% more efficient than gas boilers, and even more efficient when replacing LPG and oil boilers!

❄️💨 ASHP still work when temperatures are well below freezing.

🤫🙊 ASHP are quiet.

Internal Wall Insulation, how it works

An un-insulated wall makes your heating bill higher and your boiler work harder. Nearly half of all heat loss from solid walled properties occurs by heat escaping through the walls. Insulating these walls will slow down heat loss and keep the warmth inside your home for longer.

If your home was built before the 1920s, its external walls are probably solid walls rather than cavity walls. Solid walls have no gap, so they can’t be filled with cavity wall insulation. Solid walls can be insulated though, and internal wall insulation is a great alternative to external wall insulation and more suited for character properties.

Internal wall insulation works by adding an extra layer of insulation to the internal walls and can really improve the standard of finish in your property. Our internal wall insulation is installed by mechanically fixing and gluing insulated PIR boards onto existing walls within your property.

What are Solar Panels & How do They Work?

What is an Air Source Heat Pump?

An air source heat pump is a type of heating system that uses the outside air as a heat source to provide heat for a home. It works by extracting heat from the outdoor air, even in cold weather, transferring it inside the property via radiators that warm the rooms.

They look a lot like an air conditioning unit and are usually placed next to an external wall, fitted to the ground.

Air source heat pumps are a popular and efficient alternative to traditional heating systems, such as electric, oil or LPG gas heating, as they do not rely on fossil fuels and produce fewer emissions than traditional heating systems. When installed in a well-insulated home they will save you money, as they are so efficient.

Why are Air Source Heat Pumps So Good?

Air source heat pumps are three to four times more efficient than gas and electric boilers because they don’t have to burn fuel or painstakingly convert electricity into heat.
