پانچ، میمون ۷ ماهه از نژاد ماکاک ژاپنی در باغ‌وحش شیکاگو بود که بعد از یک زایمان سخت توسط مادرش طرد شد و فرصت طبیعی برای شیر گرفتن و مراقبت نداشت. به‌خاطر این طرد شدن در ساعات اولیه بعد از تولد، شانس زنده ماندن او در طبیعت بسیار کم بود.

نگهبانان باغ‌وحش او را به‌صورت دستی بزرگ کردند و برای آرام نکردن و کاهش استرس، بهش یک عروسک اورانگوتان دادند. پانچ شدیداً وابسته به این عروسک شد؛ همیشه آن را در آغوش می‌گرفت و حتی هنگام حرکت هم با خودش می‌برد. این عروسک برایش شبیه یک منبع پشتیبانی عاطفی بود تا او بتواند بهتر با محیط اطرافش کنار بیاید.

در ابتدا پانچ در تعامل با سایر میمون‌ها مشکل داشت و گاهی از طرف آن‌ها پس زده می‌شد، به همین دلیل بیشتر به عروسکش پناه می‌برد. اما طبق گزارش‌های جدید باغ‌وحش، یکی از میمون‌های ماده بالغ رفتارهای مادرانه نسبت به او نشان داده و این به پانچ کمک کرده تا احساس تنهایی کمتری داشته باشد.

باغ‌وحش همچنین به‌دلیل حضور زیاد بازدیدکنندگان مجبور شده تدابیر ویژه‌ای برای مدیریت جمعیت اتخاذ کند، اما وضعیت پانچ در حال بهتر

Panj is a 7-month-old Japanese macaque at the Chicago Zoo who was rejected by his mother after a difficult birth. Because he wasn’t accepted by his mother in the first hours of life, his chances of survival in the wild would have been very low.
Zoo keepers raised him by hand and gave him a stuffed orangutan toy to calm him and help him cope with stress. Panj became very attached to the toy he always held it close and even carried it with him. The toy acted as an emotional support object, helping him manage anxiety in his environment.

At first, Panj struggled to interact with other monkeys and was sometimes rejected by them, so he often turned to his toy for comfort. According to recent zoo reports, an adult female monkey has started showing maternal behavior toward him, helping reduce his loneliness.

Due to heavy crowds of visitors, the zoo has also had to implement special measures to manage traffic, but Panj’s situation is improving.
