Sometimes you already have everything you need — the information, the income, the opportunity, even the desire — yet you still don’t take action.

Why?

Because action rarely comes from logic alone.
It comes from a catalyst.

A catalyst is that conversation, that moment of clarity, that outside perspective that turns “one day” into “today.”
It’s what helps you move past fear, doubt, overthinking, and the comfort of staying exactly where you are.

I see this all the time with investing.
People know they should invest.
They know property or funds can build long-term wealth.
They know buying a first home can also be their first investment — yet they stay stuck waiting for the perfect time.

The truth is: progress starts with one decision.

If you’re looking for that catalyst — pick up the phone.
Let’s talk about:
• Investing in funds
• Investment property
• Or how your first home can also be an investment

No pressure. Just clarity, direction, and a starting point.

📞 Message me or call me — this could be the conversation that changes your future.

🎉 20 Years Since I Bought My First Home — A Journey Worth Celebrating 🏡

Twenty years ago I bought my first house here in beautiful New Zealand — and I’ll never forget it.

Back then, the prices felt high. Saving for that deposit seemed impossible at times. I’d check my bank account every week, watch my outgoings eat into my savings, and see that little deposit balance not rising as fast as I wanted it to. The journey was long, often frustrating, and honestly one of the biggest financial and emotional hurdles of my life.

But after years of discipline, planning, sacrifice and patience — I finally did it. I bought a home I could call my own.
That feeling of achievement — pride in what I’d built, excitement for the future, and relief that the struggle had paid off — is something I’ll never forget.

I remember thinking at the time, “These prices are crazy!”

Here’s what the numbers tell us now:

📍 New Zealand median house price then and now
• In 2005, median house prices were around much lower levels than today (roughly under $300,000 in many areas — exact national averages for 2005 are hard to pin down but prices were a fraction of today’s).
• As of 2025, the national median house price is sitting around $760,000–$900,000+ depending on source and region.
• In Auckland — historically NZ’s most expensive market — prices have climbed even higher, well above the national average.

That kind of long-term growth might seem daunting… but it’s also the reason property has been one of the strongest stores of wealth for Kiwi families over time.

🔑 House price growth is part of a long story
People often focus on how expensive property is today, but we have to remember that prices rise over time due to population growth, demand, economic growth and limited supply. Even with market cycles — ups, downs, pauses and corrections — a long-term view shows property has appreciated significantly versus where it was 20+ years ago.

Property is unique — it’s not a short-term sprint:

✨ You get a home you love
✨ You build equity over time
✨ You create options for your future
✨ You take part in one of the strongest assets most families ever purchase

Yes — prices ARE high now. But that doesn’t mean owning a home, or starting your property journey, is out of reach… especially when you plan well and get good advice.

A lower OCR (Official Cash Rate) generally means cheaper money in the economy. Here’s what it means in simple, practical terms, especially for New Zealand’s economy and the property market:

📉 What is the OCR?

The OCR is the interest rate set by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
Banks use it as a base to set home loan rates, business loans, and savings rates.

When the OCR is lowered, borrowing becomes cheaper.

🌏 Impact on the Economy

✅ More Spending
• Lower interest rates mean lower loan repayments
• Households have more disposable income
• People spend more → boosts economic activity

✅ Business Growth
• Businesses can borrow at lower cost
• Encourages expansion, hiring, and investment

⚠️ Lower Savings Returns
• Term deposits and savings accounts earn less interest
• People are encouraged to invest instead of saving

🏠 Impact on the Property Market

✅ Lower Mortgage Rates
• Home loans become more affordable
• Buyers can borrow more for the same repayment
• This often increases buyer demand

✅ Increased Buyer Confidence
• First-home buyers find it easier to enter the market
• Investors see better cash-flow and returns

📈 Upward Pressure on House Prices
• More buyers + cheaper credit = price support or growth
• Especially strong in desirable cities and regions

🏘️ Stronger Rental & Investment Activity
• Investors benefit from lower interest costs
• Property becomes attractive compared to low-return savings

⚠️ Things to Watch
• If rates stay low too long, prices can rise too fast
• When rates eventually increase, over-leveraged buyers feel pressure
• Good advice and sensible borrowing are critical

🔑 Simple Summary

Lower OCR = cheaper loans → more spending → stronger property demand

For buyers and investors, it often signals:
• Opportunity
• Better affordability
• Increased market activity
