The Model T Club of South Africa visited Sandstone on Friday 6th November with 26 cars where lunch was enjoyed during the MMG Bethlehem Model T Ford Tour. After arrival at 10H00 and putting their cars in the display area, a short photo session took place with a look at some of the Sandstone displays. This was followed by a leisurely train ride to Grootdraai and back to Hoekfontein for lunch. A further train ride followed to Vailima and back to Hoekfontein after lunch for some more photography before the group departed for Bethlehem and their overnight stop. Many of the owners paced the train in their cars during its journey and everyone had made a great effort to dress for the occasion. Bearing in mind that many of the Model T vehicles are over 100 years old, the trip to Sandstone was quite an adventure.

Every coach has a story to tell! 🚂

At Sandstone Estates, our impressive collection of historic railway coaches offers a fascinating glimpse into South Africa’s rich railway heritage.

Dating from as far back as 1899, the collection includes elegant private saloons once reserved for senior railway officials, former kitchen cars and classic mainline passenger coaches from the 1950s.

Originally acquired as part of Sandstone’s early railway ambitions, these coaches have been preserved and repurposed over the years, with plans to explore using some of them for accommodation in the future.

Another remarkable collection preserving the past for future generations! 🚂

Built tough, built to last 🚛

Meet the Bedford RL, a British military truck that became a familiar sight in the South African Defence Force.

Produced from the 1950s to the early 1970s, these rugged all-wheel-drive trucks were built to tackle tough terrain. With around 74,000 manufactured, the Bedford RL served in militaries around the world, with some remaining in service well into the 1990s.

Sandstone’s very own Bedford RL is a former SANDF vehicle, acquired from an army surplus dealer and now part of our collection of military history 🇿🇦

Long before Sandstone had steam trains or military vehicles, rescued tractors were the start of it all 🚜

From vintage workhorses that broke ground on the first mechanised farms, to beautifully restored icons, Sandstone is home to an impressive collection of tractors that helped shape farming history.

They might not be winning any drag races, but they’ve certainly got horsepower and plenty of character! 💪🚜

South African Western Mounted Games (SAWGMA) is a thrilling horse-riding sport that captivates participants and spectators of all ages. The South African Western Mounted Games (SAWMGA) is a thrilling equestrian competition that showcases the agility and precision of riders and horses. At SAWMGA, the main focus is on speed, agility, and precision. The provincial and national competitions provide a platform for riders of all ages and levels to compete and grow.
Sandstone was privileged to sponsor a team comprising Bianca van Rooyen and Edward Mothijoa in the recent National event at Parys from September 28th to October 2nd. Bianca rode La Campanella with Edward on Princess Amore. Unfortunately, the very poor and wet weather disrupted the event quite badly and results are still pending, nevertheless our congratulations to Bianca and Edward for their efforts in competing as the Sandstone Team.
