Choosing the right paint colour for your living room can significantly impact the mood, perceived size and overall ambience of the space. It’s not simply about picking a shade you like; you must consider how natural light, artificial lighting and the room's function interact with the chosen colour. A sophisticated colour palette can make your living room a truly inviting and relaxing sanctuary, enhancing your enjoyment of the space every day.

Here are five steps to help you choose the ideal colour:

Assess the Available Light
Note whether your room faces north, south, east or west, as this will determine if the natural light is cool or warm. Sample colours accordingly.

Test Large Swatches
Never judge a colour solely by the tin lid. Paint large test swatches (at least A4 size) on several walls and observe them throughout the day.

Consider the Mood
Decide on the desired atmosphere: light and airy (whites, pale neutrals), cosy and dramatic (deep blues, greens) or classic (greys, beige).

Factor in Furnishings
Ensure the new wall colour harmonises with your existing large pieces of furniture, flooring and curtains; the walls are merely the backdrop.

Choose the Right Finish
A matt finish gives a sophisticated, non-reflective look, while a silk or satin finish is more durable and easier to clean.

Deciding to sell your home is one of the biggest financial and personal decisions you’ll make. Selling your home isn’t just about timing the market — it’s about timing your life. It’s also about whether your current home still suits your lifestyle, budget and plans.

If you’ve been wondering whether now is the right time to make a move, here are five signs it may be worth considering.

𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆
You have enough home value to comfortably cover a 20% down payment on your next property plus all closing costs.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗜𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱
If your monthly property costs are placing pressure on your budget, it may be time to reassess. Sometimes, a move to a more manageable property can create welcome breathing room.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱
The home that suited you a few years ago may no longer fit your needs today. Perhaps you need more space, less maintenance, better security, or to be closer to work, schools or family.

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲
When buyer demand is strong and stock levels are limited, sellers are often in a better position to achieve a good price. Every suburb and area performs differently, so understanding what’s happening in your local market is key.

𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿
Sometimes the clearest sign is simply knowing you’re ready. If you feel more excited about what comes next than staying where you are, it may be the right time to explore your options.

If you’ve recognised one or two of these signs, it could be worth starting the conversation. I’d be happy to share what’s happening in the local market, so you can make an informed decision when the time is right.

A continuous drip from a tap or a persistent running toilet may seem like a minor nuisance, but these small leaks can waste vast amounts of water and money over time. Even a tiny, consistent leak can add to your water bill, not to mention the potential for water damage to surrounding cabinets or flooring. Identifying and fixing these issues quickly is a crucial element of responsible home ownership.

Here's how to track down and fix common household leaks:

Check the Water Meter
Turn off all taps and water-using appliances, then check your water meter. If the dial is still spinning, you have a leak somewhere.

Fix Dripping Taps
Often, a dripping tap only requires replacing a worn-out rubber washer or ceramic cartridge. Turn the water off at the mains before starting work.

Stop a Running Toilet
Place a few drops of food colouring in the toilet cistern (tank). If colour appears in the bowl within ten minutes without flushing, the flapper valve needs to be replaced.

Examine Under Sinks
Look inside all kitchen and bathroom cabinets for any signs of water stains, dampness or mould near the waste pipes and shut-off valves.

Check Your Outdoor Fixtures
Don’t forget to inspect garden taps, irrigation systems and hose attachments. Small drips outside can be easily overlooked, but waste just as much water as indoor leaks.

The South African property market in 2026 is being shaped by more than just price and location. Instead, buyers are prioritising three key factors: security, resilience and lifestyle. Easing economic pressures and sustained lower interest rates in 2025 have seen a wave of strategic buyers – from aspirant first-time buyers to downscaling retirees – enter the market.

“Buyers in 2026 want homes that offer peace of mind, sustainable and cost-effective living solutions and a quality lifestyle,” says Bradd Bendall, BetterBond’s Head of National Sales.

Features once considered luxury add-ons have become standard in most homes. Luxury living has transitioned into design-led living, where every aspect contributes to creating a space that is functional and restorative.

Many buyers want smaller homes – often sectional title properties or mixed-use developments – that are affordable and well-located. These property options offer security, lower maintenance and lock-up-and-go convenience.

Lifestyle estates are evolving into true urban villages or mini-cities that offer a 20-minute life radius. “These new developments are integrating an array of lifestyle amenities to appeal to families and young professionals who demand safety and convenience. For residents within these mega-estates, it means the death of the commute and the birth of the fully integrated, hyper-convenient neighbourhood.”
