If you’re behind on your municipal account in Nelson Mandela Bay the municipality’s 2026 Debt Relief Programme may give qualifying account holders up to 36 months to repay outstanding debt.
The Applications close on 31 December 2026 and must be submitted in person at a municipal customer service counter. You’ll need the completed form, checklist and supporting documents. It is also worth noting that you must still keep paying your current municipal account while your application is processed.
If you’re planning to sell your home, check your municipal balance early. Outstanding debt can affect the clearance process, and a repayment arrangement does not necessarily mean the property can transfer without further payment.
Speak to the municipality and your conveyancing attorney about what will be required. And if you’re preparing to sell in Gqeberha, contact LEAP Real Estate for a free comparative market analysis.
