Erinvale has an old Cape history

Here’s something interesting about Erinvale. The land that eventually became Erinvale was historically connected to the original Vergelegen property. The area passed through several Cape families, and the original homestead is believed to have been built around 1817.

So Erinvale's history goes back a lot further than the golf estate we know today.

Erinvale's golf course is surprisingly young
When you look at Erinvale today, it feels like it's been here forever. But the estate itself only officially opened in 1995. The 18-hole Gary Player-designed golf course opened that same year, and in 1996 Erinvale hosted the World Cup of Golf.

BLUE WATERS: The Somerset West House We Couldn't Agree Was Heritage

Blue Waters House in Somerset west was once a notable property with a history that has now largely disappeared from the landscape. In this video, I take a look back at the story of Blue Waters House, exploring some of its history, its place in the local area, and what is known about the property before it was demolished.

I’ve put this video together to preserve a little piece of local history and hopefully bring back memories for anyone who remembers Blue Waters House or has stories, photographs, or information about the house and the people connected to it.

🌿 A little piece of Helderberg history…

Did you know the Helderberg Nature Reserve almost became something quite different? When it officially opened in 1964, the administrator made it clear that it should never become a botanical garden — it was intended to remain a true nature reserve.

More than 60 years later, it continues to be one of Somerset West’s best-known natural spaces. 🌿⛰️

💧 A quick Helderberg water update

Did you know that one of the most important pieces of infrastructure supporting Cape Town’s water supply is connected to the Theewaterskloof system?

The RSE Berg River Tunnel is undergoing essential maintenance from 12–24 August 2026. This is important work to help maintain the reliability of our water infrastructure.

During this period, the City is asking residents to use water responsibly and avoid unnecessary consumption.

It’s a good reminder that water security is something that affects every one of us. 💧
