What is “Honey, Let’s Buy a Home” about?
The title of this blog was inspired by Darren Finkelstein’s “Honey, Let’s buy a Boat”.
The purpose of this blog is to set out guidelines on how to purchase a property and then how to manage that property investment whether it is meant to be your home, or a rental property, in South Africa.
I hope that my approach to this blog will achieve the goal of making the community scheme regulatory environment more fun to learn and expand my own knowledge and opinions on the industry and the daily challenges in this dynamic environment. I have deliberately tried to author this blog for the ordinary citizen, student, learner, and pupil and not just for lawyers although it will help them too. Furthermore, I hope that my opinions on contract negotiation in the purchasing stage is helpful to those prospective home owners that do not have the knowledge and are keen to get their lives started and buy a home.
As prospective home owners, new home owners, and established property owners, you need to understand what you are buying and how to buy it properly and, more importantly, how to manage your properties once you have bought them, whether you are buying to live or buying to rent.
