It was launched in 2001 and increased the lenght of Dubai’s shoreline by 100%, covers an area of 7 million sq m and extends 6.5 kms into the Persian Gulf. The island is surrounded by a 12 kilometre-long crescent shaped breakwater
It consists of a trunk (with residential shoreline apartment buildings), a crown with 17 fronds (with 3 type of detached villas: Signature Villas, Garden Homes and Canal
Cove Town Homes), and a surrounding crescent island that forms an 11 kilometre long breakwater (mainly with themed hotels). Jumeirah Palm island also features private beaches, marinas, restaurants, cafés and a variety of retail outlets
The crown is connected to the mainland by a 300-metre bridge and the crescent is connected to the top of the palm by a subsea tunnel.
