How I lost 5,000 AED helping my client.
Of course, not everything always goes smoothly and without complications. Sometimes I even lost money. Let me tell you about such a case.
I had a client from Canada who liked the options I offered him at our online meeting so much that he decided to fly to Dubai. He had not been here before, so I first gave him a short tour, after which we looked at the construction sites and went to the office of the developer of the project he decided to choose. The apartments there were selling very quickly, it was an option in an excellent location with a very convenient installment plan. While we were discussing the details, several more apartments were booked in front of us.
The client decided to book, but he had technical difficulties with the online bank. Then I offered to pay for the reservation for him. I have done this more than once, I always trust my clients, it is mutual with us. Moreover, it was a small amount - 5,000 dirhams. I transferred the money, the client was very grateful. We signed all the documents and the client flew home that same evening.
A few days later, the client wrote to me that he had some unforeseen circumstances and he understood that he couldn’t afford the installment plan now. This is normal, it happens.
🥲 My mistake was that I was so used to the fact that in Dubai the reservation is always refundable that I didn’t even bother to check. But in this particular project, because it was selling very well, they didn’t refund the reservation in case of refusal. And since I told the client that the reservation was refundable, I didn’t even tell him that I would lose this money.
