Background
The perception for the formation of the non-governmental organization in Afghanistan indeed, was a most welcome move, especially under condition that Afghanistan was engulfed with the most sever war and the country was experiencing a difficult era due to internal instability.
To render possible assistance to those in need inside the country and to mitigate the sufferings of the displaced Afghans in the neighboring countries, some Afghans NGOs were established and with the direct support of the donor agencies they have done a good job in assisting the needy ones since their inception.
Humanitarian Assistance for Development of Afghanistan (HADAF) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and non-sectarian organization, created at the initiative of group of Afghan professionals in 2007.
Women, especially in developing countries like Afghanistan, are highly deprived of their rights. They are suffering from the burden of life. They are looked as second s*x and the lowest creature having no right in their houses and community. They are given no right of education, participation and decision making in the house or community affairs. Because of poor health condition, they have no access to doctor or medicine that is why hundreds of women are died when they are pregnant or born child.
In order to overcome the inequitable condition and problems which were women facing with; we came together to find a way to get in touch with the most deprived people in the community and make them aware of their rights, we wanted to form an NGO (Organization) officially, but it was not easy, besides most risky too, under the rule of Taliban.
So we started to work for reaching the aim, just as a program with a small amount of financial recourses from our salaries and fund raising from sensible women. By the grace of ALLAH we started work under the name of HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF AFGHANISTAN (HADAF).
HADAF program was started informally in the beginning of 2007 inside Afghanistan. Despite of hardship of circumstance in the area imposed on women by Taliban, the programs were completed successfully without facing any serious problems. The program carried out the following activities during 2007 in Ghazni during regime:
Home based schools (girls) 400 trained.
Literacy programs for above the age of 15.
Tuition classes.
In the beginning of 2007 started its activities in Afghanistan especially in Kabul, Ghazni, Samangan and Kunduz. The aim of the program was to assist the most vulnerable people that are women and children; its work was to help the refugees especially women in the field of marketing of products.
After Taliban regime HAW was registered in Ministry of Economy on 2002 and now it is known as: HUMANITARIAN ASSISTNCE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF AFGHANISTAN (HADAF).
HADAF has membership of following coordination bodies and networks:
MRRD, MOWA, ANCB, ACABAR, MOE, SC-UK, SC-CN, IOM
Now HADAF is registered NGO. It has a main office in Kabul and regional office in Kunduz; Ghazni staffs are working with the sense of honesty and accountability. Office is equipped with the furniture, training materials to build the capacity of the staff, trainers and trainees.
In order to find out first needs of women, HADAF carries out a survey in community (In Kabul city district 7th) in 2007. From the survey it was found that, the children and women in Kabul villages are highly deprived of their rights. The aim of the survey was to help the young generation who are working outside their houses, and to provide facilities for the children physically and mentally development.
