Exciting progress is underway for the future City Centre.

Mount Barker District Council and Burke Urban have finalised key land transactions that will enable the first stages of the City Centre development to move forward.

This is notification that as part of these works, the cottage on the corner of Morphett and Hutchinson Streets will be removed to allow broader site works and to prepare the area for future retail activation. Updated flood modelling found that retaining the building was not viable.

Looking ahead, the endorsed masterplan includes a food and beverage tenancy on this corner, helping activate the Town Square and create a vibrant place for the community to gather.

While it’s never easy to remove an existing structure, this step will help deliver a resilient, high-quality development aligned with the long-term vision for the City Centre.

What a wonderful day it was yesterday to launch Schaefer's Crossing, the new pedestrian bridge at Newenham Adelaide Hills. This bridge is made of 500kg of recycled plastic shopping bags and food wrappers and is the first project in the world to use these innovative composite panels which have a structural strength on par with concrete but provide up to 48% reduction in embodied carbon. We're thrilled to have collaborated with Sustainable Infrastructure Systems and the Mount Barker District Council to bring this new sustainable and recycled bridge to Newenham!

We’re pleased to advise that the Mount Barker District Council and Burke Urban Investments have unveiled a revised masterplan for the first phase of the City Centre Project. The plan includes a town square, office buildings for Council and Community Living Australia (CLA), a retail section as well as two levels of parking.

We’ve responded to the community’s voice on several fronts, including reducing building heights, consolidating parking within the site, committing to the preservation of Druids Avenue’s trees, and scrapping the planned multi-deck carpark.

Construction is forecast to start in 2025 but in the meantime there will be opportunities for community engagement and the temporary ‘Pop-Up Park’ will launch this Friday 15th December.
A two night mini festival called ‘Get Festive’ will provide free family friendly entertainment with street performers, games, live music and circus tent performances. We hope to see you there!

One of our greatest achievements this year has been the formation of the Newenham Green Team, a collaboration between Olivia Burke’s Kitchen Farm Adelaide Hills and Community Living Australia. The program was designed to enable CLA clients the ability to participate in activities, maximise their engagement with community, develop new skills within a safe and productive work environment at Burke Urban's multi-award winning Newenham development.

The 10-week program was a resounding success culminating in a shirt presentation ceremony on 5th December. The logical next step is to extend it to involve Newenham residents to work both with the Green Team, as well as on their own independent activities, to create a true community working model, with a similar ethos to a Progress Association or Tidy Towns committee.

A great story in the Advertiser today announcing that we have just launched another amazing stage of land in our NewbridgeLiving development in Murray Bridge, having sold out of our first three stages of some 70 allotments.

This ties in with the $2million upgrade of the Murray Bridge Golf Club which is now well underway and will soon form the green centrepiece to the Newbridge community as well as transform this already magnificent course in to a Par-71 Championship Golf Course.
