Understand the Requirements:
Before making any plans, speak with your local council about the regulations that apply to your property. Heritage and character homes often come with strict guidelines that protect the building’s original appearance. Councils may limit what you can demolish, alter or extend, so knowing these rules early helps you design a renovation that is both compliant and achievable.

Choose the Right Tradespeople:
Heritage homes require tradespeople who understand traditional building methods and materials. Look for builders, carpenters, stonemasons and plasterers who have previously worked on heritage projects. Their knowledge will help ensure that important details are preserved and that any new work blends beautifully with the old. Skilled trades also reduce the risk of damaging delicate or irreplaceable features.

Preserve the Character Features:
One of the highlights of renovating a heritage home is restoring the features that make it special. Decorative ceilings, leadlight windows, ornate fireplaces, solid timber floors and detailed cornices are often the centrepieces of these properties. Whenever possible, restore rather than replace. If certain elements can’t be saved, consider having them recreated using traditional techniques to maintain authenticity.

Use Materials That Reflect the Era:
Heritage homes were built with materials that differ from today’s standards. Original timber, traditional plaster walls and stone such as bluestone or sandstone were commonly used. When planning your renovation, choose materials that closely match what was used originally, or work with suppliers who specialise in heritage products. This helps your renovation feel cohesive and true to the home’s history.

Blend Modern Living With the Old:
Modern updates can be added, but they should complement the home’s character. Whether you’re designing an extension, creating an open living area or installing new windows and doors, aim for a seamless transition between historic and contemporary spaces. Keeping consistent proportions, styles and finishes can make new additions feel like a natural part of the original home.🏡

At Lands Real Estate, we believe in celebrating the dedication, passion, and relentless pursuit of excellence that drives our team every single day. On the 19th of July 2025, we hosted our highly anticipated Annual Awards Night at Chianti, recognising the outstanding efforts and achievements of our team over the past financial year.

The night was a true reflection of our culture—one built on hard work, shared values, and unwavering commitment to delivering the very best for our clients and community.

We proudly presented Tenure Awards to two team members:

- Tyson Benbow, celebrating 2 years of service.
- Ryan Ranger, who marked an impressive 5-year milestone.

We presented Values Awards which highlight individuals who consistently embody our core principles. This year, we were proud to honour Stephanie Mendoza and Joshua Macri for exemplifying our value of Relentlessness and Ryan Ranger for consistently demonstrating our value of Respect.

A new addition to this year’s event was the Emerging Talent Award, designed to recognise rising stars within our business. The inaugural award was presented to Edward Luscombe, whose growth, attitude, and contribution have been nothing short of inspiring.

When it comes to performance, Joshua Macri made his mark by taking home both Most Efforts and Most Door Knocks—a testament to his drive and connection with the community. Meanwhile, Matthew Lipari was awarded not only for Most Appraisals, but also earned the prestigious title of Salesperson of the Year, showcasing his continued excellence in the field.

We also celebrated the incredible versatility of Annabelle Bruce, who received the All-Rounder Award for her invaluable support across multiple departments and her hybrid role within the business.
