New Black Designs Residential and Commercial Interior Design New Black Designs is a boutique Interior Design consultancy creating both residential and commercial spaces.

Collaborating with you to create interiors and exteriors that respect both the space, how that space operates and how you want to feel within that space. You may be quite the design guru yourself and just need an expert eye to cast over your designs and selections before committing to the investment. Or you may engage New Black Designs to design, select and project manage your entire renovation, project or build. Ultimate flexibility is available. You may want to introduce me to talented tradespeople you know or you may like to use my team that is second to none. It all starts with a conversation, approximately 2 hours – with coffee! to discuss your vision and how we will move through the design process together, finally delivering a reality that surpasses your expectations. It is not enough that I am delighted with the design, it is everything that you are delighted with the design.

Take a tour through this stunning brand-new home in Strathalbyn, designed for Peter and Jenny.

Inside, I curated every detail — from fixtures, fittings, tiles and sanitary selections to the overall design and curation of decorative elements. Custom furniture was designed to complement the space and bring a personalised, functional elegance throughout the home, along with the specification and purchase of interior elements from my wholesalers and retailers.

Outside, I was engaged to specify all external colours and finishes, ensuring a timeless look that sits beautifully within the local landscape. I also designed the full outdoor kitchen, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living — perfect for entertaining in style.

Back in March 2022 I posted a flat lay of the proposed finishes for our camper van we fondly call Fred. I can confirm that designing & being builder’s assistant took blood, sweat, tears and some vigorous debates. BUT we did it! My discerning client (husband) built this van from scratch, researched the requirements for every aspect, printed a trees worth of electrical plans and the result is incredible. I also have a new skill set … I’m very competent with a jigsaw. Will we do another? - Ah no! Really that’s a no! Let the adventures begin!! (Actually continue … I’m only four weeks late in creating this post 😃😎

Let's chat about laundries ...
For me, the less time in the laundry the better BUT this laundry is worth hanging out in. If this was mine, I might even consider ironing again ... only kidding!!
The original laundry was a decent size with tall ceilings but it wasn't practical, it was dreary and dated.
So how did we go about creating a hard working area that was worth appreciating? It was all about the cabinetry design, oh and let's not forget about those divine splashback tiles.
One side of the tall cabinets was designed to house a stick vacuum with a power point inside the cabinet for re-charging, the ironing board, mop, broom & bucket and the other side a set of adjustable shelves.
The overhead cabinets on the wall over the bench were designed using two different depths - 350mm deep to store detergents and the 600mm deep at the top for those rarely used items.
The base cabinets on the right hand side of the washing / dryer open to reveal two sneaky mobile laundry trolleys. Of course a hanging rail was installed and a set of shelves to join the overhead cabinets with the window.
The combination of timber and white laminate and that stunning coral tile create a practical but welcoming area to carry out laundry tasks.

Chandlers Hill Project - Ensuite, Walk In Robe and Laundry Renovation. This gorgeous property sits on Chandlers Hill and has the most gorgeous view. Now it has the ensuite to match. It was originally dark and dated but with a rework of the layout to create a walk in shower and a freestanding bath that opens onto the courtyard this ensuite is now light, bright and practical. The vanity has a tropical paradise vibe thanks to the Catherine Martin wallpaper and the tile selections provide the colour and texture that elevate the design. The walk in robe was re-designed to maximise storage whilst being light and bright. Thanks to Matt & Aaron at Spriggs & Co Plumbing and Renovations.
