Bob Stafford AKA Bobby
I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bob Stafford, or "Bobby" as many of us knew him. He was a dedicated and driven member of the Albany Creek community for many years.
Bob was always up for a laugh, had a positive attitude towards life, and was someone everyone proudly called a mate.
One of my favourite memories was every Christmas, Bob would ride through the local streets on the back of a truck dressed as Santa Claus, handing out lollies to all the local kids. The funny part was that Bob genuinely thought he was Santa! I always knew it was him, so I'd call out, "Hi Bob!" He'd look at me as if to say, "You're not supposed to say that—I'm Santa!" It still makes me smile thinking about it.
Bob had an infectious personality and made lifelong friendships wherever he went. Through his career in real estate he built countless connections, and I even heard people jokingly refer to him as the "Mayor of Albany Creek" because everyone seemed to know him.
He was heavily involved in community service, whether it was through Apex, Lions, or other local organisations. Bob was someone who simply got things done. He helped those in need, supported local fundraisers, contributed to community infrastructure, and worked tirelessly to make Albany Creek a better place.
What I'll cherish most was the phone call I received from Bob on my birthday, 8 May. He told me he wasn't well and wanted to say goodbye. Even then, he was cracking jokes, having a laugh, and finished the call with, "Love ya, Matty." That summed Bob up perfectly—a stoic man with a huge heart who thought of others, even in his own toughest moments.
Rest easy, mate. You truly were one of a kind. They don't make them like you anymore.
Thank you for your friendship, your laughter, your generosity, and everything you gave to the Albany Creek community.
You'll be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
