One year ago, I opened the doors at Acton Belle Property Albany.

Starting my own agency in a tight, competitive market was a leap of faith, and I didn't make it alone. To my wife, thank you for backing me. To the Belle Property network, my team, and every client who has trusted us with their home, thank you.

When I started, my goal was simply to survive the first 12 months. Since then, we've sold 25 properties, grown to a team of four, and built the foundation of a real estate agency I'm incredibly proud of.

What I've loved most is the people and the support. Working alongside other local businesses, being there for clients through some big decisions, and helping a lot of people through a market that hasn't always been easy.

Looking ahead, my focus is simple: give every homeowner the best possible marketing and service, so they get the best possible result. I believe we can promote Albany homes further and wider than anyone else. And in a changing market, I'm excited by the challenge of continuing to prove ourselves.

My goal for year two is for Belle Property to become a household name when people think of selling their home in Albany.

Hawthorndene, Seymour Street, Albany, c. 1895–1900
This charming photograph captures 'Hawthorndene' in its early years, shortly after its construction in the early 1890s. Built by William Angove on a 7.5 acre holding on the outskirts of Albany, the house was designed in the late Victorian Gothic style, with decorative pierced bargeboards, elegant cast-iron balustrading and beautifully crafted local stonework.

Beyond its architectural beauty, it is the small details that draw us into the scene. A horse and cart wait quietly in the foreground, a reminder of a time when travel and transport moved at a gentler pace. Ladies can be seen gathered beneath the verandah, while a gentleman sits near the front window. Together, these figures transform the image from a record of a building into a glimpse of everyday life more than 125 years ago.

Originally standing in a newly subdivided farming district beyond Albany's town centre, Hawthorndene would witness the town's steady growth around it through the twentieth century. The home passed through the hands of several well-known local families, including the Angoves, Hassells, Edwards, Radfords, Mills and Brooks families, each adding another chapter to its story.

Today, this photograph offers a rare window into Albany's past—a moment frozen in time when Hawthorndene stood proudly in the landscape, surrounded by the people, animals and daily routines that made it a home.
