Deaf Children Australia is bringing the Heroes and Leaders Exhibition to Gasworks Arts Park!
4th April - 7th May 2023
Daily, 9:30am - 4:30pm (free entry)
This unique exhibition features art by young deaf and hard of hearing people from ages 8 through to 23 years. Now in its second year, the national competition is the only one of its kind in Australia and is a platform dedicated to supporting, developing, and promoting the creative skills of young deaf people. The exhibition will showcase all the competition entries including the finalists and winners selected by a panel of professional deaf artists; Sue Joe Wright, Irene Holub and Angie Goto.
Curious and creative minds have explored the theme Heroes and Leaders, what it means to them and who or what is their source of inspiration and why. Artworks include visual and digital art across portraits, paintings, digital illustrations, comic book and more.
DCA’s intent with the art competition is to help young DHH people realise their potential, connect them with deaf mentors in the creative space, to provide additional pathways to allow then to explore their creativity, and to show them, that the broader community wants to know their story through their art.
