The best time of year for oysters in Tasmania is during our cooler months, which means these little beauties are especially delicious from April through September. Yep, that means now!
During this period, oysters are at their most plump, sweet, and succulent, and the pristine waters of Bruny Island produce some of the best in the world. My favourite place to stop as I'm driving from the ferry to the h**pcrete houses is Get Shucked Bruny Island Oysters, and having eaten thousands of these over the past few decades, I agree with their claim that they "...sell oysters so fresh it’s like you’re being kissed by the ocean".
Get Shucked is a locally owned and operated oyster farm and bar who harvest, shuck and plate up these delicious little molluscs daily from 9:30am - 4:30pm. You’ll be hard pressed to find a fresher oyster or a more authentic experience, especially with the views over the water, and when my guests choose to take some back to their accommodation, I always encourage them to do it like a local by hitting the drive-through window 😊
