The best time of year for oysters in Tasmania is during our cooler months, which means these little beauties are especially delicious from April through September. Yep, that means now!

During this period, oysters are at their most plump, sweet, and succulent, and the pristine waters of Bruny Island produce some of the best in the world. My favourite place to stop as I'm driving from the ferry to the h**pcrete houses is Get Shucked Bruny Island Oysters, and having eaten thousands of these over the past few decades, I agree with their claim that they "...sell oysters so fresh it’s like you’re being kissed by the ocean".

Get Shucked is a locally owned and operated oyster farm and bar who harvest, shuck and plate up these delicious little molluscs daily from 9:30am - 4:30pm. You’ll be hard pressed to find a fresher oyster or a more authentic experience, especially with the views over the water, and when my guests choose to take some back to their accommodation, I always encourage them to do it like a local by hitting the drive-through window 😊

A couple of our guests were lucky enough to witness, capture and share this image of a stunning Aurora Australis they saw while walking back from dinner at the Hotel Bruny to the Tassie H**pcrete Houses a few weeks ago.

Our unique accommodation is a gentle 20 minute stroll along the beach to our good mates at the islands only pub. And if you're not lucky enough to see the southern lights, you're guaranteed to see a huge number of native animals like wallabies hopping around as you build up an appetite on the way to the hotel, or walk off the meal on your way home!

There really is nothing like the magic of Bruny 😊

Saving the planet isn’t always comfortable or practical, but Sativa House manages both.

We were so excited to see this incredible on-page article in The Age Traveller section last month, we forgot to post about it 😂

A huge thanks to writer and guest Kate Allman for making the jaunt down to soak up the serenity, and to our mates Jess at Hamperlicious on Bruny and Jono at Coastrider Surf Academy for the extra elements that made this visit extra special 🙂

This happy snap of two of our most recent furry guests sums up just how happy we were to have been included in the Urban List Best Pet-Friendly Accommodation In Tasmania To Book In 2025 🥰

"Whoever said holidaying with your pets couldn’t be luxe clearly hasn’t stayed at Indica House. Tucked away on Tasmania’s stunning Bruny Island, this architectural gem sleeps you, your pup, and four lucky humans.

Spread over two sleek levels, it’s all about slow, scenic living—think snoozing in h**p linen beds, soaking in a deep-set tub, sunset BBQs on the deck overlooking the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, and couch snuggles with your four-legged bestie. Looking for wholesome holiday vibes? Nailed it"

Have you heard the word about h**p?

If you're curious to learn what all the fuss is about, our luxury short-stay accommodation units on Bruny Island are a perfect way to experience the magic for yourself.

One of the most environmentally sustainable building materials in the world, our luxury villas were the first structures in Tassie built with h**pcrete, as recently featured on Grand Designs Australia.

Surrounded by beautiful h**pcrete walls made using locally grown and processed crops from X-H**p, you can unwind by sipping a wee h**p G&T made with the beautiful spirits distilled by our mates at New Norfolk Distillery while watching the sun set over the ocean.

After enjoying a peaceful nights sleep on a handmade mattress dressed in the most divine h**p bed linen from Eva Home, you can open a window to hear the sound of birds in the stunning native garden that is thriving thanks to the h**p mulch.

Post-swim at the beach, or after hiking the sea cliffs, you can take a leisurely shower using the gorgeous bathroom products made by Margaret River H**p Co. You can re-fuel your next adventure by sampling some of the h**p foods supplied... maybe try some h**p protein powder in your breakfast smoothie, a sprinkle of seeds on your muesli or use h**p oil in your salad dressing?

Pricing and availability details via the links below... we hope to see you soon!

These two eco-friendly luxury h**pcrete holiday homes offer a truly unique experience, with guests enjoying a range of products made using this incredibly versatile plant, including the walls!

Our visitors sleep on a deluxe A.H. Beard mattress dressed with divine Eva Home h**p bed linen, simply turn on the taps for the cleanest rain water in the world, and use beautiful h**p bathroom products made by Margaret River H**p Co.

Guests can sample complimentary h**p food with the option of also enjoying a New Norfolk Distillery h**p gin, with all of these food and drink products made using seeds grown by local farmers that are processed and packaged here in our home state.

Indica House and Sativa House were the first homes to be built in Tasmania using locally grown-and-processed crops from our states only fibre processing mill. Materials were supplied by X-H**p, an innovative start-up recently featured in the current series of Grand Designs Australia and in coverage in The Age, The Australian and The Sydney Morning Herald.

Both villas overlook the magnificent d'Entrecasteaux Channel at Alonnah on Bruny Island, and offer an amazing place to stay for all who are curious about h**p and sustainable building, or for anyone keen for a blissful island retreat.
