The Great Ocean Road Running Festival is hitting Apollo Bay this weekend! 🌊🎉
One of the biggest events in our region, this incredible festival brings runners and visitors from near and far - showcasing our stunning coastline, vibrant community, and beautiful township.

We are committed to caring for Country and take small steps each day toward this goal.

Today’s action is a simple one: walking around with a bucket at dusk to collect black slugs, which start appearing around 7 p.m.

The Black Slug (*Arion ater*) is an introduced species in cooler regions of Australia. These omnivores feed on live plants, fungi, and any decaying matter in their path. Unfortunately, our native animals—and even our pet ducks—won’t eat them, as they excrete a sticky mucus when touched.

It’s believed that these slugs may endanger sensitive ecosystems, and they certainly wreak havoc on fruit, vegetable, and native plants.
