Keeping waterway clean

Over the past six months, our team has been working closely with the Honourable Brent Mickelberg MP’s Office to address the removal of an unregistered and sinking vessel in Wynnum Creek. We began this investigation after several community members reported the boat to our team.

The boat had deteriorated to the point where it could no longer be salvaged by the owner or Maritime Safety Queensland, and was becoming a risk to our waterway.

This week, the vessel was successfully removed by Matt, Stuart and Liam from Jessop Marine Services. I stopped by to thank the team for their hard work, and while onsite we identified another vessel that may also require assessment. Our office will now report this to TMR for consideration.

Wynnum Creek and its boats are an iconic part of our bayside landscape, but once a vessel is beyond repair and no longer seaworthy, it becomes a pollutant to our creek and the bay, and it needs to be responsibly removed.

Keeping our waterways healthy is something we all care about, and I’m grateful to everyone involved in getting this important job done. 🌊💙
