On the 22nd of March I completed my first (and most likely last) Half Ironman 70.3 in a little over 6 hours!
Firstly, I wanted to say thank you to my incredible wife Casie and the family! Without their unwavering support I wouldn’t have completed this amazing event.
It took 3 months of hard dedication and discipline to get there. Thanks to for kickstarting the journey, and making the commitment with me.
I took a few of lessons from this chapter.
1. You can take on any challenge if you’re prepared to choose the hard road & sacrifice short term comfort.
2. Success is the relentless pursuit of a worthwhile goal. Everyone’s goals are different, & celebrating that is important.
3. You can derive a lot of self confidence, esteem and belief from challenging yourself to do something that you’re scared of failing at.
I also want to thank Michael, a bloke who happens to live at the end my street for loaning me his bike on Raceday. I legit asked the community group the week out if someone could help, & he came through for me. His generous act allowed me to ride 5km faster per kilometre. Essentially saving me a sh*tload of time & energy on the bike. He has paid it forward & I shall do the same.
The final photo in the carousel is my first run of this year. I could barely make it 4kms without blowing up. I was pretty worried but pushed on and did it. So remember, a dream without action is only a dream. Go Cal!
