SugarBerry’s Good News for First-home Buyers

Softer market conditions give the First Home Buyer a great chance to buy in. To assist first-home buyers accumulate a deposit and get into the market, as of July 1, 2018, the First Home Super Saver Scheme allows first-home buyers to make up to $30,000 in voluntary contributions to their superannuation to save for a home, with a limit of $15,000 per financial year. Voluntary contributions are taxed at a lower rate compared to income, allowing first-home buyers to save money faster. Applicants are also entitled to access any earnings on their extra contributions.

And when ready to enter the market, buying a brand new house or apartment can be a great way to get your foot in the door of the housing market. In New South Wales, in addition to sales tax exemption, first-home buyers are eligible for a $10,000 grant for new properties under $650,000, or when entering into a building contract worth less than $750,000.
