If you've ever wondered who's behind the name on the sign, here's a bit about me.
I didn't choose real estate — it kind of chose me. My dad moved to the South Coast in the early 70s and built a career in the industry, eventually taking over Berry Real Estate in 1987 — a business that had already been part of this region since 1977, originally operating out of the shop on Queen Street that locals now know as Global Contact. Under his watch it grew it into one the of most successful Elders franchises in the country, expanding from one office into nine, stretching the length of the South Coast and into the Southern Highlands. The clearing sales at farms. The record prices. The good years and the tough ones. I was born in 1985, so the business is literally older than I am — and it was already my life long before it became my career.
I joined the business in 2005, took over in 2011, and in 2022 put our family name above the door — rebranding as McGoldrick Estate Agents. That felt like the right moment to own it completely. Most recently, we reopened our Huskisson office to service the Jervis Bay region — a return to where we'd had a presence under Dad, and an area we'd never really stopped working anyway.
Early on I also spent a couple of years in Sydney, working across resales of apartments, townhouses and homes, as well as large off-the-plan multi-storey developments in the Green Square, Alexandria, Waterloo and Rosebery corridor. It was a great education — fast-paced, high-volume, and a completely different market. I could have stayed. But the South Coast kept calling, and honestly, there was never really any competition.
I'm a South Coast kid through and through. Teenage years were spent bodyboarding from Werri Beach down to Jervis Bay, motocross racing at Yerriyong, and hitting horse and cattle shows up and down the coast. My wife Ash and I have travelled a lot — and honestly, nothing compares. There's a moment coming around the bends at Kiama where you just know you're home. That feeling never gets old.
Ash and I are raising our kids, Hanna and Logan, here — and I hope they fall in love with this place the same way I did. We're big caravanners. When we want a quick escape, we stay local — Kiama, Currarong, Huskisson, Lake Conjola, or push a little further to Batemans Bay. Our favourite spot on a hot day? Flat Rock on the Upper Kangaroo River. If you know, you know.
Outside of work I've always kept busy. Right now I'm pretty focused on fitness — in the gym six mornings a week, and last year I ticked off the City 2 Surf, a half marathon, and a 32km trail run. This year I'm going after a full marathon and an ultra trail run. Still figuring out which is the bigger challenge.
21 years in this industry, in this region. I've taken this business through tough markets, dropped the franchise, backed our own name, opened a second office, and built a team I'm genuinely proud of. The people I work with aren't strangers — they're locals I've grown up alongside, done deals with, and earned the trust of over time. That's not something you can shortcut.
If you're thinking about buying, selling, or just want a straight conversation about the market — I'd love to hear from you.
