Our Blackville Public School 150th Anniversary Community Cookbook is nearly ready to go to print!

We are so excited to share that this very special book is almost complete and we cannot wait for everyone to see it. Filled with treasured family recipes, wonderful memories, photographs and artwork, it truly is a celebration of 150 years of Blackville Public School and the amazing community that has supported it.

A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors who have helped make this project possible. Your generosity has ensured that these stories and recipes will be preserved for generations to come. 💙💛

But there's still a little time...(about two weeks to be exact!)

Were you a student, teacher, staff member or part of the Blackville community? We'd still love to include your favourite recipe, a special memory or even an old photo before we send the book off to the printers.

Whether it's a recipe that's been passed down through your family, a funny classroom story, or a treasured school photo tucked away in an album, we'd love to help preserve it as part of Blackville's history.

📩 Please send your contributions through as soon as possible to [email protected]. This is your chance to be part of a keepsake that will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Every recipe has a story... and we'd love yours to be part of ours.

Memories Monday – Music Memories with Mr Wilf MacBeth 🎶

As we have been collecting your wonderful memories in the lead-up to Blackville Public School's 150th celebrations, one name has been mentioned time and time again... Mr Wilf MacBeth.

For many former students, Wilf's weekly music lessons and drama classes were a highlight of their school days. Whether it was learning the recorder, tackling the clarinet or discovering how to read music, his enthusiasm and encouragement helped generations of Blackville students develop a love of music that has stayed with them long after leaving school.

Those lessons also led to some incredible opportunities. Many students proudly represented our little country school at performances beyond Blackville and for some, the unforgettable experience of travelling to Sydney to perform at the iconic Sydney Opera House. What an amazing opportunity that must have been and a memory so many of you still treasure today.

Another memory that continues to be shared is the performance of The Wallaby Track, the much-loved Australian bush musical written by Alex Hood. Performed in the Blackville Village Hall, it brought the whole community together as students sang, acted and entertained packed audiences with a true celebration of life in the Australian bush.

It's heartwarming to see how many of your favourite school memories revolve around music, friendships and the opportunities that grew from Wilf MacBeth's dedication. His impact on generations of Blackville students is still being talked about decades later and that's a pretty special legacy.

Now we would love to hear even more!

* Did you learn a musical instrument with Mr MacBeth?
* Were you part of The Wallaby Track?
* Did you perform at the Sydney Opera House?
Tag yourself, your classmates and share your favourite music memories below.

As we celebrate 150 years of Blackville Public School, it's these stories that remind us that some of life's greatest lessons are not just learnt in the classroom but also through music, laughter, friendship and opportunities we will never forget. 💙💛

Memories Monday

We take great pride in reflecting on over 150 years of Blackville Public School’s rich history, cherishing memories from the past and discovering new stories that have shaped our community.

To continue deepening our understanding of the school’s heritage, we warmly invite past students, families and staff to share your memories with us. Your contributions are invaluable in preserving the legacy of our beloved school.

We extend our sincere gratitude to former Principal Mr. Tim Ryan for sharing these wonderful photographs from his time at Blackville Public School. His recollections include memorable moments such as helicopters landing on our oval, the unique Easter hat parades—with hats positioned in front of students’ faces rather than on top their heads—and joyful days spent bike riding alongside a fellow Ryan family member.

Thank you, Mr. Ryan, for generously sharing these precious memories.

If you have photos or stories you would like to contribute, we would love to hear from you!

Memories Monday

This week, we’re celebrating a tradition synonymous with primary schools—and no, it’s not the recorder!

Who remembers the classic school photo days? The morning rituals of mum brushing your hair so vigorously you lost a few strands, or making sure that last smear of Vegemite was gone (even if it meant skipping a wash for another week). Ties were tightened, socks pulled up to the knees, and hair slicked back… what wonderful memories!

Below are a selection of recent school photos taken around Blackville. They showcase not only our incredible students, but also the breathtaking region we’re privileged to call home.

If you have any old school photos tucked away, we’d love for you to share them with us!
