β Severe Weather Update β Newcastle & Hunter Region
Here's what we know right now.
A powerful East Coast Low continues to impact Newcastle and the Hunter region bringing damaging winds, possible heavy rainfall and widespread disruptions.
CURRENT CONDITIONS
π§οΈ Rainfall: Newcastle has recorded approximately 55.8mm of rain in the past 24 hours. Rain continues to fall.
π¬ Wind: Damaging southwesterly winds averaging 25 to 40 km/h are affecting the region, with gusts reaching up to 125km/h in some coastal areas.
β Warnings: A Severe Weather Warning is in effect for the Hunter region, indicating the potential for damaging, locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding.
π Hunter Line Train Services:
Due to flooding on the tracks at Sandgate, there are currently no train services between Newcastle Interchange and Scone/Dungog. Limited buses are supplementing services; however, arrival times are currently unavailable.
β‘ POWER OUTAGE UPDATE β NEWCASTLE & HUNTER REGION
Ausgrid reports significant power outages across the region, with approximately 20,000 customers affected due to fallen trees and power lines. Crews are working to restore electricity as conditions permit.
