Running a small business is hard for anyone, at any time. It’s not for the faint-hearted, and I never take it for granted.
This month marks 6 years of being a small business owner — 6 years since I paid what felt like an excessive amount to call this business mine, all on the back of bushfires and only months into the COVID pandemic.
But I survived. I pushed through the years of COVID, the juggle, the uncertainty, and the lack of income while trying to revive and rebuild a business.
I could not have done it without the support of my friends, family, and the beautiful owners who stayed on the ride with me — and those who joined me in the middle of it all.
But most importantly, the person who has been beside me through every step of these 6 years is my beautiful sister, Sarah. Without her support, guidance, and ability to somehow manage my finances, I wouldn’t still be here. I am forever grateful to have her by my side as she has evolved in the business over the years, taking on more and more so I could enjoy life as a mum.
It certainly is a month for celebrations because 4 years ago, the beautiful Sarah H joined us too. Starting originally in admin and taking over my socials, she now runs our reservations and has taken both our socials and the Region’s socials to a whole new level. I am forever proud of her, love watching her flourish, and am so grateful for the hard work she puts in every single day.
Right now, as a small business owner, I am facing some of the toughest challenges a small business can face — something I hope many others never have to experience. It is heartbreaking, but it also serves as a reminder to focus on the good and celebrate the positives.
What I’m most proud of is how hard I have worked to get here, to defy the odds, and to be surrounded by the most incredible extended team.
I am so honoured to work with the amazing women I do across both facets of the business and will be forever grateful for their support, hard work, and commitment to keeping this dream alive.
To my owners and third party suppliers, thank-you, thank-you for letting us play such a vital part in your lives and businesses.
