Burpengary East Roadworks – Community Q&A Update
(Bruce Highway Service Road, Creek Road, Twists Road & Fosters Road)
🙋Why are there so many roadworks happening across Burpengary East?
✅ Burpengary East is experiencing significant growth, with multiple developments occurring at the same time. Each development is required to construct essential infrastructure such as roads, intersections, drainage, water services and pedestrian facilities.
As developments move through different construction stages, works overlap. This results in multiple traffic impacts across the Bruce Highway Service Road, Creek Road, Twists Road and Fosters Road area.
Council has prepared a consolidated traffic guidance overview that documents all current and upcoming roadworks, traffic arrangements and estimated timeframes .
⸻
🙋 What traffic conditions are currently in place and what’s coming next?
✅ The approved traffic guidance plan outlines the following traffic arrangements and timeframes:
• Northbound-only traffic flow
• Open to northbound traffic only
• Estimated to be completed by the end of January 2026
• One-lane shuttle flow (both directions)
• Multiple locations
• Estimated to be completed by mid-February 2026
• One-lane shuttle flow (both directions)
• Estimated to start mid-February 2026
• Estimated duration 4 weeks
• Two-way traffic flow
• Estimated to start mid-February 2026
• Estimated duration 6 weeks
• Shoulder closure with shuttle flow
• Estimated to start late January 2026
• Estimated completion mid-March 2026
• Partial or full road closures
• Estimated to start early to mid-March 2026
• Estimated completion late June 2026
• Additional one-lane shuttle flow sections
• Estimated to be completed by mid-February 2026
• Later-stage partial or full road closures
• Estimated to start late May 2026
• Estimated to finish late July 2026

⸻
🙋 How long will the overall disruption last?
✅ • The bulk of development-related roadworks are expected to be completed between mid-February and mid-March 2026
• A small number of works will commence around that time and continue through to mid-year
• Some later-stage works are scheduled to extend into late June and July 2026
⸻
🙋 Why don’t you make developers go faster?
✅ In short — it is in the developers’ own best interests to finish roadworks as quickly as possible.
Developers carry significant ongoing costs for every day roadworks remain in place, including:
• Traffic controllers (often multiple staff, full-day shifts)
• Temporary traffic barriers and signage
• Traffic management plans and compliance inspections
• Extended plant hire and machinery costs
• Delayed construction schedules and holding costs
For example:
• A single set of traffic controllers can cost thousands of dollars per week
• Long-term traffic control across multiple locations can quickly add up to tens of thousands of dollars per month
• Delays also hold up home construction, settlements and final approvals
Because of these costs, there is no financial incentive for developers to delay or extend roadworks once they are underway.
⸻
🙋 Why is traffic control so frequent and visible?
✅ Traffic control is a mandatory requirement to ensure the safety of:
• Road users
• Pedestrians
• Construction workers
This is particularly important in high-traffic, high-growth areas like Burpengary East. While inconvenient, traffic control is essential to prevent serious incidents and ensure works comply with safety standards.
⸻
🙋 What is happening specifically on the Eastern Service Road?
✅ Delays experienced last year due to water main works created unavoidable knock-on impacts, forcing some roadworks to be deferred into this year.
Current status:
• Delays were primarily linked to kerb and channel subcontractor availability
• The civil contractor will mobilise to meet the revised program
• Kerb and channel installation is scheduled to commence on 28 January 2026
• All Eastern Service Road works are scheduled to be completed by mid-February 2026
⸻
🙋 What is Council doing to manage the impact on residents and road users?
✅ Council continues to:
• Coordinate works across multiple developments
• Monitor compliance with approved traffic management plans
• Sequence works where possible to reduce congestion
• Minimise impacts while ensuring all required infrastructure is delivered safely and correctly
⸻
🙋 Who can I contact if I have concerns?
✅ If you have specific concerns around traffic access, safety or conditions in your area, please get in touch so they can be investigated and addressed where possible.
The best way is via email [email protected] so the issue can be recorded and tracked and officers can respond accordingly.
