Let me ask you something simple. If you were applying for a job, would you apply without knowing what it pays? Probably not. So why are we still doing it to candidates?
Hiding the salary feels like a safe move. Keep your options open, see what people are willing to accept. But the reality is that your best candidates, the ones with options, are scrolling straight past. They are not chasing what they cannot see.
We are living in a world built on transparency. People research companies before they apply, read reviews, compare offers. Leaving out the salary does not protect you, it just puts you behind.
The most common reason businesses leave it out? They do not want existing team members seeing what they are offering a new hire. But think about what that actually says. If there is a pay gap worth hiding, that is not a salary problem, that is a culture problem already in the making.
Here is what gets lost in the middle of all of it: the right person. Someone perfectly suited to your team rules themselves out because they cannot gauge whether it is worth their time. You are not protecting your budget, you are protecting a problem while turning away the solution.
Salary is always negotiable based on experience and skillset. But you cannot negotiate with someone who never applied.
Be upfront, attract the right people, and build a team that actually trusts you from day one.
