Hills carnivals update

⚠️ Important event changes

Tomorrow is set to be sunny, but unfortunately this week’s wet weather has affected George Willmore Park. But don’t worry, the rain can’t wash away all the fun! 🎉

Due to the weather, Hills Carnivale will look a little bit different this Saturday, with rides unfortunately no longer able to operate and an adjusted layout.

Instead, we made our kids zone bigger and better, there will be two stages of entertainment, delicious food vendors, 30+ market stalls, wildlife encounters, fireworks and so much more to enjoy!

Please note that the grounds are still expected to be wet despite Saturday’s sunny forecast so we recommend wearing appropriate footwear. Seating will be available at the event, but we highly recommend bringing your own chair instead of a picnic rug.

We can’t wait to welcome you all for a huge day of community fun 💗

More rain!

YES, YES, YES, now I am getting very excited for good reason!
👉The biggest rainfall so far this year is anticipated to fall across inland South East QLD & inland North East NSW this week. A strong cut off low pressure system is coming from South Australia and it runs right over the top of both areas from Wednesday to Friday. The system will draw in huge amounts of moisture while the cold air aloft generates a widespread increase in instability levels.

👉Today will be pretty quiet and cloudy with a few coastal showers.
👉A band of rain and storms will develop through inland areas tomorrow with some locally heavy falls. The low further back inland will drag this leading activity down from the north towards the south which also slowly works it way east overnight.
👉Rain and storms will pretty much blanket most of SEQLD & NENSW on Thursday as the system moves overhead. Locally moderate to heavy falls possible inland and along the coast.
The low will be spinning the entire atmosphere including rain and storms in a clockwise direction.
👉Early on Friday the centre of the low will be on the NENSW coast with the backside wrap generating further rain across the region. Some of this rain activity could also linger across the Southern Downs and Granite Belt.
👉Widespread totals of 25-50mm are likely with higher falls of 50-125mm also a good possibility. Once high resolution forecast data comes into play, we may see "strips" of rainfall up to 150mm.
👉This will be an EXCEPTIONAL follow up rain bearing system for inland areas who desperately need more. No it still won't break the existing drought but it will offer a much needed boost. At this time of year heading into Winter grass won't grow much and frosts are coming. There could end up being enough rainfall for some run off into creeks and dams though. Farmers could also get enough rain and confidence now to plant Winter crops.
Yes its probably going to *iss people off on the coast but please play fair as we desperately need this rain in here and that's the trade off.
🔴NOTE: This rain has absolutely nothing to do with El Nino which hasn't even developed yet. This is a synoptic weather pattern that comes and goes in a few days. The very string El Nino is expected to develop from June onwards and last at least 6 months which has longer term climate (rain & temperature) impacts. Please understand the huge difference.
