The Short family started in real estate when John Short opened an office in Benalla, Victoria in 1949. That office and a second office in Wangaratta became part of the Dalgety expansion in the early 60s. John’s sons David, Roger and Trevor joined him when he opened an office in Rosebud in 1969 and shortly afterwards expanded to Rye, Blairgowrie and Dromana. In the 80's Short Real Estate expanded to Queensland opening offices in Palm Beach, Miami. Surfers Paradise and Southport. In the early 90's, as the property market retreated, the offices were consolidated with Roger retaining the Rye office, David the Rosebud office and Trevor the Miami office. Twenty-five years later, in 2015, the last of these offices was sold. In 2016, Trevor and his son David developed a new online model with savings in overhead expenses that were passed on to home sellers by way of a fair fixed fee for services rendered. In 2019 when Short Real Estate combined their traditional agency service with Save On Commission, daughter Christine and son Michael joined the business. Today the Short family continues to offer their traditional service with a low fixed fee and no commission, saving vendors thousands of dollars on commission Australia wide.
