This Saturday for Broadford Living and Learning Centre’s Open Day the Crop and Seed Swap will be on from 12.30-4pm.

We have lots of seedlings of cabbage, cauli, iceberg and cos lettuce, broccoli, spinach, broad beans, rocket and lots more.

We also have lots of seeds.

If you have small jars we need about 29 of them and if anyone has a stevia plant or cutting, we have a member who would love one.

We are preparing for the next Crop and Seed Swap.

What would you like to see?

So far we have marigolds, leeks, ice berg lettuce.

We have been busy harvesting seeds from our sunflowers - well the ones that the cockatiels didn't get to anyway!

The crop and seed swap program will take a hiatus during December and January, resuming in February 2025.

In a short space of time, we have successfully distributed 692 seedlings and 422 packets of seeds, engaging 508 community members in all kinds of weather conditions. We have established connections with other gardening and food swap groups in Wallan, Kilmore, and Broadford.

We have enjoyed cups of tea, coffee and the occasional cupcake while exchanging ideas on composting, bug control and exchanging recipes with lots of laughter. We have recycled over 1,800 toilet rolls and newspapers—though the newspapers were not individually counted—into plantable pots for seedlings. Additionally, we have facilitated the exchange of over 180 kg of fruits, vegetables, and a variety of herbs and eggs, jams, providing our community with more than $5,000 in free assistance.

More importantly the Crop and Seed Swap while still in its infancy, has fostered opportunities for social connection, self-expression, and accomplishment, while also promoting outdoor activity, nutrition, and mindfulness. These combined effects contribute to a stronger sense of community, enhanced well-being, and reduced stress levels.

If anyone had any succulents that they would like to give away, I would love to have them. Looking for around 30 or so to make up gifts for community members at the Seymour Hub on December 17. I would need these by the 11th December to be dropped of at the Broadford Living and earning Centre. Thank you!

I will be at the Broadford Living and Learning Centre on Wednesday. For all those that asked for louffa, the plant fairy will be dropping them off on Wednesday to you.
