From 1 July 2026, new Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) laws will apply to property purchases.

What this means for buyers:
Real estate agents and settlement agents will be required to complete Customer Due Diligence (CDD / KYC), including:
• Verifying your identity
• Asking the purpose of the purchase
• Checking sanctions and politically exposed persons lists
• In some cases, requesting source of funds or wealth information
✔ CDD is completed after your offer is accepted
✔ Buyer’s agents must complete checks before providing services
✔ Settlement agents will also be required to complete checks
📌 If your offer is accepted before 1 July 2026, some transitional rules may apply, but CDD may still be required at settlement.
These reforms are part of a nationwide effort to ensure transparency and protect the integrity of the property market.
