A typical renter in a capital city is paying $150 more in rent each week compared to two years ago, a new report has found, as strong demand for a record low number of rentals pushes up rents across Australia.

The median weekly rent across Australia’s capitals jumped to $600 in December 2023.

The number of available rental properties sank to a record low in December, with total rental listings down 4.7% over the year and 30.2% below the 10-year average for December.

As an investor, it's important to understand your loan to help you achieve your financial goals 👇

A home loan repayment typically consists of two parts:

📈 The principal component – the amount you borrow (your loan balance).

📈The interest component – the amount the lender charges on your outstanding balance.

With an interest only home loan, your minimum repayments will only cover the interest charges on your loan for an agreed period of time.

Some investors select interest-only loans to have positive rental-yield on their property.

Other investors choose to build equity and go principle and interest.

Always speak to a mortgage broker or lender before making any financial choices about your loan.
