🌊 North Harbour: A New Era for Burpengary East and Moreton Bay 🌊
Today I attended a presentation by North Harbour and Economic Development QLD (State Gov Approvers of PDAs) and am able to bring you an update to bring you up to speed on the history and future of the North Harbour development.
After years of planning and advocacy, the North Harbour project is officially moving into its next major stage — and it’s set to transform our region’s economy, lifestyle and job market.
🏗️ What is North Harbour?
Located in Burpengary East, North Harbour is a 1,000-hectare masterplanned community that brings together:
• Residential neighbourhoods
• A future world-class marina
• A thriving business and industry precinct
• 400 hectares of green and recreational space
With 12km of Caboolture River frontage and direct access to Moreton Bay, this project will become one of South East Queensland’s premier destinations for living, working, and recreation.
🗓️ Project Timeline and PDA Status
On 30 July 2025, the Queensland Government declared North Harbour a Priority Development Area (PDA) — a milestone that fast-tracks housing, marina, tourism and business development.
Here’s the roadmap ahead:
• 30 July 2025: PDA declared by the State Government
• 17 October 2025: Early Release Area application lodged with the State Government under the PDA (Precinct 1)
• 2026: Construction anticipated to begin on first 200 homes (Early Release Area)
• Mid–Late 2026: Draft PDA Development Scheme anticipated to be released for public consultation by the State Government
• January 2027: Final PDA Development Scheme anticipated to be adopted
Once finalised, the PDA will guide the delivery of:
🏠 3,700 new homes, including terrace homes, apartments, detached housing, and waterfront living
🚤 A 400-berth world-class marina, 500 wet berths, 511 private pontoons and a dry boat stacker
🏢 Retail, tourism, and hotel precincts
💼 Around 2,000 ongoing jobs and an estimated $456 million annual boost to the local economy
💰 Economic & Job Benefits for Moreton Bay
The scale of this development represents one of the largest economic catalysts in the city’s history:
• Over 6,500 long-term jobs across construction, tourism, retail, and marine industries
• The Marina Precinct alone will inject $1.24 billion into construction and $2.74 billion across the wider project
• North Harbour is projected to contribute $568 million a year to Queensland’s economy — with $456 million staying right here in Moreton Bay
🏭 A Thriving Business & Industry Hub
The North Harbour Business Park is already taking shape as a major employment and innovation precinct for South East Queensland.
• 280,000m² of land already sold and settled
• Designed for logistics, warehousing, light industry and commercial operations
• Excellent Bruce Highway access for freight and distribution
• Expected to create thousands of local jobs
Supporting the marina will be a 10-hectare marine industry precinct, set to become Moreton Bay’s largest shipyard — creating jobs and skills in marine maintenance, refit, and manufacturing.
🍽️ Waterfront Lifestyle & Experiences
The future Marina Village will be a vibrant waterfront destination featuring:
• Waterfront dining and cafés
• Specialty shopping and everyday retail
• Promenades and open public spaces connecting residents and visitors to the water
This will provide locals with a world-class leisure destination right on our doorstep — bringing new tourism opportunities and lifestyle experiences to the region.
📍 Perfectly Positioned
North Harbour’s location is one of its biggest strengths.
It’s just:
• 10 mins to Morayfield station and retail
• 15–25 mins to Caboolture, North Lakes, and Redcliffe
• 40 mins to the Sunshine Coast
• 45 mins to Brisbane CBD, Airport, and Port of Brisbane
This connectivity makes it an ideal location for marine industry, logistics, and residential growth.
🌿 Delivered in Stages Over 10–15 Years
The entire North Harbour project will continue to roll out in carefully managed stages over the next decade and a half, ensuring sustainable growth and quality infrastructure as the community expands.
