🎂 Cairns Property Clearances is officially SIX!
CPC started back in August 2020, right at the beginning of COVID, and it's fair to say the business looks pretty different today to what it did back then.
One of the biggest changes we've seen over those six years has been the second-hand market itself.
When we first started, here in Cairns there was a much bigger market for everyday second-hand furniture and household items. Young people moving into their first flat or share house, families setting up their homes, people looking for a more affordable option, and those who simply preferred buying good-quality second-hand were a big part of our customer base.
Over the years, buying new has become significantly cheaper and more accessible. Stylish furniture and homewares can now be bought new at a fraction of what they once cost, and options like Afterpay have made buying new accessible to people who may previously have chosen second-hand.
Unfortunately, buying habits have changed too. Quality and longevity aren't always the priority they once were, and over the six years we've been in business, we've watched demand for many second-hand household items here in Cairns shrink dramatically.
Less demand naturally means lower prices, which is part of the reason you'll often see some pretty great value-for-money items at our clearances!
It's also one of the reasons Cairns Property Clearances has had to change.
Running a small business means constantly paying attention to what's working, what's not, and being willing to change with the times.
For many years, selling items on our clients' behalf was a large part of what we did. As the second-hand market changed, so did we, and CPC gradually evolved into the business it is today.
We now exclusively specialise in complete property clearances, transforming lived-in homes into sale-ready properties.
Most of the homes we walk into are being cleared during a major life event. Someone may be downsizing, moving into aged care, or a family may be dealing with the home of a loved one who has passed away.
We carefully work our way through every room, cupboard, drawer and pantry, sorting and clearing the contents of the home. Items of value are sold directly from the property, unsellable but usable items are donated or passed on wherever possible, rubbish is removed, and as always, one of our biggest priorities is keeping as much as we possibly can out of landfill.
And while we still donate plenty to local charities and organisations, we've increasingly loved being able to put things directly into the hands of people who will actually use them.
If you've purchased from one of our property clearances recently, there's a good chance we've pointed you towards a free section and told you to help yourself! We love seeing things that still have plenty of life left in them go directly into another Cairns home where they'll be used and appreciated all over again.
Most of the properties we work in are being prepared for sale. Depending on what the home needs, once the contents have been cleared, we manage the professional vacate cleaning and can coordinate additional services such as pressure washing, air-conditioning cleaning, gardening and other jobs required to get the property ready for its next chapter.
It's amazing what can change in just a few short months. Having Melissa and Hannah come on board earlier this year has brought such fresh energy into CPC. They're both positive, enthusiastic, willing to get stuck into whatever is in front of us, and they genuinely enjoy the work we do.
The three of us thoroughly enjoy seeing the transformation that happens over the course of a clearance, but even more than that, there is something incredibly rewarding about taking a situation that feels completely overwhelming to a client and steadily working our way through it until the house is cleared, cleaned and ready for whatever comes next.
Having Melissa and Hannah alongside me has made me incredibly optimistic about the future of CPC and what we're going to achieve together. ❤️

Having had to clear my own father's estate at a young age, I understand personally how emotional this process can be and how much trust it takes to let someone into a home filled with a lifetime of belongings. It's a responsibility we don't take lightly, and we're incredibly grateful to every family who trusts us to help them through that next chapter.
We're also incredibly grateful for the amount of our work that now comes through referrals and word of mouth. We regularly receive calls that start with, "A friend gave me your number..." or "Our real estate agent recommended you..." and every single recommendation helps another person find us when they need us.
So thank you to the friends, family members, past clients and local real estate agents who continue to pass our name on.
And of course, a HUGE thank you to our buyers and everyone who follows along with our clearances!
Some of you have been buying from us since the beginning. Some follow along because you love vintage treasures, solid timber, beautiful craftsmanship and things that were made to last. Others love the sustainability of second-hand and knowing that perfectly good belongings are being given another life.
And some of you just love a bloody good bargain. 😂
Whatever the reason, every item you take home is another item being reused, appreciated and kept circulating through our Cairns community. Every comment, share, recommendation and bit of support over the years has helped CPC become what it is today.

There are still so many people who don't know a service like ours exists. Sometimes they don't need us until suddenly Mum or Dad is moving into aged care, they're managing an estate from interstate, they're downsizing, or they're faced with an entire home that needs to be cleared and prepared for sale.
Every review helps more of those people find us when they need us.
And the more families we're able to help, the more homes we're able to clear, the more useful belongings we can keep circulating through our community instead of ending up in landfill.
And it looks like year seven is already taking us to some new places!
This week I'm heading a little further afield, with upcoming clearances in Innisfail, Babinda and Port Douglas, and I'm excited to see CPC gradually extending further across Far North Queensland.
If the last six years have taught me anything, it's that a small business never stands still. CPC has changed enormously since 2020, and I'm incredibly proud of what it has grown into and even more excited about where we're heading next.
