The Dos and Don’ts of Decorations for Renters
If you love Halloween and can’t wait to get all decked out for the occasion, there are some little things to be aware of before getting your decoration on.
Adhesives are a big one here. Blu-tac, sticky tape, stick-on nails etc. are often noted in the special terms as not allowed during tenancy. Even if this is not the case, it is important to note that adhesives can cause minor damage to the property such as peeling paint from walls when removed and paint discolouration. This means that when vacating a property, the tenant may have to organise to have walls patched and painted, which can be a huge (and avoidable) cost.
Take care when hanging items as well, especially from fixtures such as fan and lights. Heavy items may be susceptible to falling from their position and can damage fixtures, furniture, ceiling, and floors. Patching or replacing these damages once again can result in a big cost for the tenant. Instead try draping decorations on benches and tables and opt for lightweight hanging decorations. For more general items such a picture frames, try propping against the wall on a hall table or display cabinet.
