Successful Negotiation
Its interesting when I hear agents step into a negotiation with a WIN/LOSE mentality...
A successful negotiation is a serious discussion between parties where they reach an agreement that satisfies the main interests of everyone involved.
Instead of one side “winning” and the other “losing,” a successful negotiation usually results in a mutually beneficial outcome; most commonly known as WIN/WIN
These are the key areas you need an Agent effective in:
Clear Communication
Clearly explain their clients expectations
Active listening
Most agents only listen to themselves (and they love hearing their voice). Active Listening is crucial to making sure the purchasers expectations are being heard and addressed.
Preparation
Understanding the recent economic climates, financial changes, national and internal effectors in the market and in-depth knowledge of the current property market
Mutual Respect
Respect in all areas of life is paramount, during negotiation, it is even more vitally important to treat the matter professionally and respectfully, even if they disagree.
Problem-Solving Approach
Sometimes there are many layers to a negotiation, focus on solving the problem rather than shutting the negotiation down.
Compromise and Flexibility
Each side may give up something small to gain something more important. In property this may look like foregoing the inground pool to get more floor space with the prospect of installing a pool.
Clear Agreement
The final decision is clearly defined so everyone knows what they agreed to and the deal is DONE.
