From 1 July 2026, new Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing laws require real estate agents to carry out customer due diligence (CDD).
This means verifying your identity, checking whether you are a politically exposed person or on sanctions lists and, in some cases, asking about your reasons for buying or selling, and your source of funds or wealth. If you're buying or selling through a trust or company, agents will also need to confirm the beneficial owners.
These checks are legal requirements, imposed by the Australian government. If you have any questions, please speak to your real estate agent or read our Frequently Asked Questions.
