Brandon, our Survey Technician, was recently up at Byfield National Park surveying the sand hills and hardwood pallet roads around Five Rocks and Stockyard Point for a Queensland state government department.

Sand hills aren't exactly stable ground. With the landscape shifting over time, traditional survey methods alone weren't going to cut it, so the scope leaned heavily on drones, LiDAR and MLS scanners to build a detailed 3D picture of how the terrain and that 20 year old road infrastructure have changed.

That kind of spatial data gives our client something they can work with, a clear and accurate baseline to inform decisions about how to manage and maintain the area going forward.

Waterside at Hamilton Island on a Saturday and Wade and Dave have just let slip that we're hiring across some exciting projects on the east coast.

Engineering surveyors, construction, cadastral, renewables, road and civil, there's a solid mix on the go from Brisbane to Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Moranbah with flexible rosters and setups depending on the role.

Your new work week? Travelling to some incredible Australian locations for a start, with even more on offer depending on where the work takes you. Throw in team lunches, golf days and the odd rugby game with the crew and honestly, it's a pretty good gig.

If you're in Australia or across the Tasman in NZ and thinking about your next move, the roles are linked below.

Meet Luke Lorback, General Manager Melbourne at Vision Surveys.

Luke brings experience across oil and gas, mining, civil construction and commercial construction to his new role leading Vision Surveys' presence in Victoria. His background spanning project management and engineering surveying across Australia shapes how he manages teams, keeps communication clear with clients and plans ahead so delivery runs smoothly from the start.

For Luke, staying close to the work is central to how he operates. That means checking in with crews on site, making sure they have what they need and building the kind of long term client relationships that support consistent delivery as the business grows.

Now focused on growing Vision Surveys' Melbourne presence, Luke is excited to deliver quality surveying for clients across Victoria and be part of the company's continued growth on the east coast.

Elliot our Senior Contour and Detail Surveyor was out west of the Gold Coast last month supporting a major pipeline infrastructure project, working across some varied terrain from waterways through to open rural land.

Using GNSS and total station equipment, the team captured existing ground levels, corridor cross sections and detailed feature data, along with underground service location, that engineers rely on to design the alignment, manage risks and get the pipeline built exactly where it needs to go. It's detailed, methodical work and getting it right at this stage is what sets the whole project up for success.

We're proud to be supporting infrastructure that communities rely on.

When a client schedules a rail shutdown in Central Queensland, Andreas, our Rail Survey Manager and our local crew are the people for the job.

Shutdown windows are tight so there's no room for error. Andreas and the team were on site for pre-works, capturing the data needed for the upgrade and making sure everything ties in accurately before the network comes back online.

Rail surveying is one of our specialisations at Vision Surveys. From track laying and resurfacing to formation assessments, bridge structures and machine guidance, we can support your rail project from start to finish.

Nearly a decade working with our marine infrastructure client, so when they had a wharf and marina upgrade to deliver in Papua New Guinea, we were proud to support.

Dylan from our Airlie Beach office made the trip to PNG for X weeks and hit the ground running. Over 30 years of inconsistent survey data, no reliable reference points and a completely different regulatory and operational environment to navigate.

He sorted the control, delivered the survey and spent time bringing the local team up to speed so they could carry it forward. For our client that meant less risk, fewer surprises and a project that could actually move forward with confidence.

Not every day our gun office crew member Jess swaps the office for the field, but last month she headed out to Coombabah with our Brisbane surveyor Walter to assist with our annual instrument calibration over the EDM Calibration Range.

As registered surveyors we have a legal obligation to ensure our equipment is standardised and that all distance measurements are traceable to the national standard. These behind the scenes processes that most people don't think about underpin the accuracy and reliability of everything we deliver for our clients.

Looks like Jess loved every minute of it too. We might have a future surveyor on our hands! 👀

Got a project coming up? Let's talk.

Our Vision Academy cadet Michael headed to Nepal as part of a university field program with several weeks based at Kathmandu University and the Land Training Centre in Dhulikhel, doing fieldwork in a very different environment to what he's used to.

The technical side was complex - GNSS observations, total station traversing, digital levelling, UAV photogrammetry and terrestrial laser scanning across steep and demanding terrain. On top of that, navigating a completely different datum and survey system.

"Even just understanding how their datums worked and how everything tied together in a different country was challenging. It makes you slow down and really think about what you're doing."

We’re so proud of the way Michael backed himself on this trip. Our cadets work with us in the field through our Vision Academy program, earning certification with the Surveyors Board of Queensland while they study and taking on experiences like this along the way.
