In May 2024, Western Australia (WA) implemented stamp duty reforms that benefit first-home buyers:
Exemption
First-home buyers pay no stamp duty on properties valued up to $450,000
Concession
First-home buyers pay a concessional rate on properties valued between $450,000 and $600,000
Cost
The concessional rate is $15.01 for every $100, or part of $100, by which the property value exceeds $450,000
Impact
The reforms are expected to help around 5,000 first-home buyers each year at a cost of about $20 million annually.
