Elimatta Farm

Elimatta Farm Elimatta Farm is nestled in the beautiful Strzelecki ranges, come and join us on our farming journey

This week we had one of our beef cross steers head off to the Koonwarra market. It’s exciting to see the farm starting to sell some livestock and take another step forward.

The market was strong, which is always encouraging. We’re hoping it stays that way when our Red Angus steers are ready to head off in spring 🐂

Until then, they’ll keep turning grass into beef and we’ll keep checking market reports like they’re lottery numbers🤞

🚨 Escapist!! 🚨

It appears we may have had a few wanderers out by the tracks overnight, judging by the suspicious amount of roadside grass that’s disappeared! 🌱🐄

A huge thank you to the diligent neighbour who must have quietly herded them up the driveway and shut the gate for us ❤️ We really do have the best people around us.

As far as the cows are concerned, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence… and, to be fair, they happen to be right in this instance! 😂

Thankfully everyone is back where they belong, looking very pleased with themselves after their little adventure. 🤦‍♀️🐮

Childers Community Catch-Up ❤️

Tonight we headed along to the Childers Community Catch-Up, and what a fantastic afternoon it was!

For those who don’t know, Childers doesn’t have a community hall, a school, shops, or even a township to gather in. So for a local family to open up their property and host a free community event for everyone was something pretty special.

It was wonderful to see so many local families come together, catch up around the fire, enjoy some food and music, and simply spend time connecting. We honestly had no idea there were that many people in Childers!

A huge thank you to Katrina and Calvin for welcoming us onto your property and putting on such a great event. It was lovely to meet so many members of our local community and put faces to names.

This event was supported through a Look Over The Farm Gate grant provided by Agriculture Victoria, which is all about supporting farming communities and reminding us of something incredibly important—look after your health, check in on your neighbours, and look after each other.

Community is one of the greatest strengths we have in the bush, and tonight was a great reminder of that. 🌾❤️

Welcoming Torquay back to the herd for the third — and possibly final — time! 🐂🤎

Safe to say he knows the place pretty well these days and settles straight back in like he owns it 😆 Always the quiet gentleman with the girls, which makes life a whole lot easier for us too.

Now the waiting game begins… fingers crossed for a great pregnancy rate and plenty of healthy calves on the ground next season 🤞🐄🌱

Little man giving the silage operation the big thumbs up 👍🚜🌱

Nothing better than growing up on the farm — muddy boots, tractor rides with Dad, and learning where hard work really happens. These are the memories and lessons that stick for life 💙🐄

Our young Bull Valerian is growing out quite nicely! 🐂 He’s turned into such a lovely quiet fella and spends most of his days hanging out with his paddock buddy Sunny ☀️ (you might remember him from when we brought him home in the back of the car 😆🚗)

Safe to say Sunny has grown quite a bit since then too!! Watching these boys grow and settle into farm life is pretty special ♥️🌾

School and academics are so important — but nothing compares to real-life learning on the farm.

Learning how to keep the herd calm, how to safely handle 500kg beasts, how to keep records, work as a team, and most importantly… how to stay safe around livestock 🚜💪

These are the lessons that can’t be taught from a classroom desk — this is real life on the farm 🌾🐂

SWEET PEA ♥️🐄

One of our bottle-raised calves from our very first calving season… and she’s still as grateful as ever for a full trough of fresh water during the dry months 💧☀️

Sweet Pea was born a twin alongside her brother, so we’re still unsure whether she’ll be fertile or if she may be a freemartin. But regardless of what the future holds for her, she already has a very important job here on the farm 🐮

She keeps the herd calm around us, comes running when called, and helps us move cattle without too much stress or fuss — and when you’re working with big animals, that trust and calmness is worth its weight in gold ✨

Sometimes the quiet achievers end up being the most valuable ones ♥️

It’s been a while since we last posted, but life on the farm has been as busy as ever! 🚜🌾🐄

We enjoyed a wonderful Easter, survived a jam-packed school holiday break, and today we’re finally slowing down enough to enjoy one of the best sounds there is… rain on the roof 🌧️🏡 and the sight of our new tank filling up! 🙌💧

Meanwhile, these 15-month-old steers are absolutely loving the fresh feed and rain 🌱🐂 Hopefully they’re doing plenty of growing and fattening while the paddocks are looking their best! 🤞🌿

Nothing better than seeing the country get a good drink 💚🌧️
