Discover the beauty of winter walks in the Snowy Mountains 🍂🏔️

Did you know that spending time in nature can help reduce stress and leave you feeling refreshed and recharged?

One of the things we love most about living in the Snowy Mountains is that there are wonderful walks for all ages and abilities at all times of the year.

A favourite of ours is the easy walk from the Thredbo River Picnic Area to the Gaden Trout Hatchery. Surrounded by nature and following the beautiful Thredbo River, it's a peaceful way to spend a few hours and slow down for a while.

If you visit on a Saturday or Sunday, you can also explore the Gaden Trout Hatchery, which is open to visitors on weekends. It's a fascinating place and often surprises people with just how interesting it is.

Sometimes the best winter memories aren't made on the ski slopes — they're made walking beside a mountain river, breathing fresh alpine air and simply enjoying the moment.

Something a little different in the Snowy Mountains 🧖‍♀️🏔️

One of the things we love about living in the Snowy Mountains is discovering experiences that are a little unexpected.

We really enjoy being able to introduce our guests Andrea's White House to these wonderful experiences. Sometimes they are hidden treasures.

Recently we came upon the Snowy Sauna on the shores of Lake Jindabyne.

This looks like a wonderful way to slow down, unwind and enjoy the beauty of the region from a different perspective.

There's something special about stepping into the warmth of the sauna while looking out across the lake and mountains. Whether you've spent the day walking, exploring, skiing, or simply enjoying the fresh alpine air, this could be the perfect opportunity to relax and recharge.

Just a short drive from Crackenback (close to Thredbo and the ski tube to Perisher) and all the alpine and winter fun on offer Snowy Sauna offers a unique wellness experience that many visitors don't expect to find in the Snowy Mountains.

It's another reminder that a winter getaway isn't always about rushing from one activity to the next. Sometimes it's about slowing down, taking in the scenery and enjoying a little time for yourself.

One of the ways we like to welcome guests to Andrea's White House is with a few special treats waiting on arrival.

A favourite is a fresh sourdough loaf from the Snowy Mill Bakery in Jindabyne.

Whether your sourdough is toasted for breakfast before a day exploring the Snowy Mountains, shared with local cheeses and a glass of wine in the evening, or simply enjoyed with a good coffee, there is something special about fresh local bread.

Supporting local businesses is important to us, and we love introducing our guests to some of the wonderful produce available in our region.

One of our bests things about hosting guests at Andrea's White House is sharing the incredible local food scene.
Just a 15-minute drive away, Jindabyne offers shops, services, cafes, restaurants and plenty of places to relax and enjoy a meal with family and friends.
One of the joys of visiting the Snowy Mountains is discovering the wonderful local food experiences right on our doorstep – some are quite unexpected!
Here are three of our personal favorites. There are far too many to mention, but these are a wonderful place to start.

🌮 Cocina
📍 Shop 15 / 33 Kosciuszko Road, Jindabyne (Old Shopping Centre)
Guests often tell us this is one of their favourite dining experiences.
Mexican food in the Snowy Mountains – who would have thought? Cocina delivers contemporary Mexican flavours in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Bookings are recommended.

🥘 Café Darya
📍 Shop 3, Level 2, Snowy Mountains Plaza, Jindabyne
A true Jindabyne institution.
For more than 20 years, Café Darya has been serving its unique Persian-inspired menu to locals and visitors alike. We've known this business since it first opened and it remains one of our favourite dining experiences in the region.
Note: BYO and cash only. Bookings are essential.

☕ Birchwood Jindabyne
📍 Shop 3, 3 Gippsland Street, Jindabyne
A favourite with both locals and visitors, Birchwood offers wonderful coffee, breakfast, and lunch options seven days a week.
It's the perfect place to fuel up before a day exploring the Snowy Mountains or heading to the ski fields.
They also offer home catering if you'd like to enjoy a special meal without spending time in the kitchen.

🍷 Half the magic of a Snowy Mountains escape is eating well and supporting our wonderful local businesses.
