🤩 Fun Fact for the week… did you know…? We're entering truffle season in Spa Country.

Truffles are among the world's most prized ingredients and grow hidden beneath the soil, where specially trained dogs use their remarkable sense of smell to locate them.

(We're still working on Truffle's truffle training... 🐾)

To celebrate a milestone birthday for Mum, we all rugged up and headed out on a truffle hunt together at Black Cat Truffles.

It was a tad chilly.

There was dirt.
There were muddy boots.
There were plenty of laughs.
And plenty of sniffs.

And, of course, there was a truffle.
(No, not the furry one.)

Followed by an incredible truffle-inspired lunch. Yum!

As we enter truffle season again, it's lovely to look back on such a wonderful memory and way to celebrate a special occasion.

🤩 Fun Fact for the week… did you know…? The word nostalgia wasn't originally associated with fond memories at all.

In fact, when the term was first coined in the 17th century, it was considered a medical condition used to describe an intense longing for home.

Derived from the Greek words nostos (return home) and algos (pain or longing), nostalgia was once thought to be a serious illness affecting people separated from familiar places and loved ones.

Today, we tend to think of nostalgia a bit differently...

More often, it's sparked by a familiar song, a favourite recipe, an old photo, or a conversation with dear friends from years gone by.

After spending time recently going down memory lane—walking the beach as we once did in Sydney, reconnecting with friends from our past, celebrating Sebastian's birthday this week, and Suzi chatting with a friend from high school last night—it felt like the perfect little fact to share.

Despite the years, the different paths we've taken, and the distance between us, somehow it always feels like yesterday.

We simply pick up where we left off.

Perhaps nostalgia isn't really about wanting to go back in time at all...
Perhaps it's simply a sense of feeling "at home".

A reminder of the people, places, and traditions that helped shape who we are—and who we've become.

As the final week of Autumn settles across Spa Country… 🍂
Seasonal produce draws us towards meals that feel warmer and more nourishing.

This month’s recipe — roasted pumpkin soup — has long been a favourite in our family, first served in my mother’s tearoom, and later in mine! In fact, I could not make enough of it.

To elevate it to the next level, I've added crispy sage and toasted hazelnuts. Yum!

Simple, seasonal, and made for cosy evenings at home.

🍃 Pair with a roasted oolong or genmaicha to bring it all beautifully together.

Happy Birthday Darling Sebastian ❤️

62 today… and somehow nearly 20 years since we first met through real estate!

Who would have thought that selling a little unit in Sydney would lead to all of this… a shared life of adventures built around love, resilience, courage, laughter, countless cups of tea, new beginnings, and more than a few leaps of faith along the way.

From Sydney’s North Shore to Wollongong, to Tasmania and back to Sydney again — before eventually taking the biggest leap of all: leaving the Big Smoke and city life behind altogether for a treechange to beautiful Spa Country and building Spa Country Real Estate together from the ground up.

Through every chapter, you have remained exactly who you are at heart — charming, intelligent, thoughtful, impeccably mannered, very funny, deeply sensitive, incredibly hard-working, and a man of great integrity.

I have watched you embrace each new adventure with grace, determination and humility — someone who can seemingly do anything you put your mind to, while still remaining wonderfully youthful and a boy at heart!

I’m also very proud that together we became ambassadors for FISH Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health — something genuinely meaningful to us both — and of all the other small things that were, in fact, the big things we have shared along the way.

I’ve planned a little coastal escape to celebrate so we can do something we always loved in our Sydney days — walking along the beach together when you finally had a rare day off from real estate, and I wasn’t juggling marketing work or rushing back to open the tearooms on weekends.

Some things change.
Some things never do.
