Loki represented ADEC Kedge at the AMC Search Career Expo yesterday at the Australian Maritime College. ⚓️

As someone who has only recently made the transition from university into the maritime industry, he was able to chat with students about career pathways, professional development, and what those first steps into the industry can really look like.

It was a great day of conversations, connections, and sharing a bit about the work we do at ADEC Kedge.

Thanks to AMC Search for having us.

Meet our 2026 Dry Dock Training presenter: Alex Stiglich (DM Consulting).

Alex brings over fifteen years of hands-on drydocking experience, guiding Navy, Coast Guard, and commercial vessels through complex docking operations across the US and internationally.

He’s worked across every major drydocking platform, including graving docks and floating docks, travel lifts, vertical lifts, marine railways, and heavy-lift systems. As Chief Engineer, Alex leads dry dock engineering projects, drives dry dock modernisation initiatives, and champions innovation such as alternative blocking materials and tools like the Block Contact Indicator System and Fast Docking systems.

He’s been teaching Dry Dock Training for over five years, delivering technical knowledge with the patience and clarity he’s well-known for. Alex makes the content accessible, practical, and engaging to both first-time attendees and seasoned dock masters.

Alex is an active member of SNAME and RINA, staying connected with the latest standards and developments across the maritime industry.

We’re excited to have him back in 2026. You’ll be learning from one of the best in the field.

𝘓𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 is a 14.26m steel-built crayfishing vessel, launched in 1990 and operated by Lighthouse Lobster.

She’s been extremely well maintained throughout her working life, with an extensive 2023 refit completed to a high standard, and that level of presentation has been kept up. Overall, she presents in very good order.

Our marine surveyor Graham Perkins completed this Condition & Valuation Survey to support the vessel’s insurance requirements, documenting Lighthouse’s current condition and value with an independent, up-to-date assessment.

If you need an independent Condition & Valuation Survey for a working vessel, feel free to reach out.

A new year… and the end of an era.

On 31 January, our dear friend and colleague Peter Keyes will hang up his surveyor’s hat after more than 60 years on and around boats.

Since his early days in boat building and throughout a career working with vessels of all shapes and sizes, Peter has always had a special soft spot for wooden boats. His knowledge runs deep, his stories even deeper, and his love for the maritime world has been felt by everyone who’s crossed his path.

While it’s hard to say goodbye, we’re excited for Peter as he sets sail into retirement, with more time for the things he loves.

To Peter’s clients: we’re here and ready to look after you, continuing the work with the same care and attention you’ve always known.

Thank you, Peter. You’ll always be part of our story. ⚓

𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘵 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳 𝘐, a 10.5-metre vessel operating as a 2C and 2D fishing charter, completed the final out-of-water component of its 10-year renewal survey yesterday at the St Helens slip.

Our Marine Surveyor, Peter Keyes, needed to take quite a detour as authorities closed the Tasman Highway due to the fires in the Stieglitz area. Our thoughts are with everyone affected, facing uncertainty and loss.

Huge appreciation goes to the firefighters, emergency crews and volunteers who have been working tirelessly. It’s been moving to see the community rally around each other with offers of shelter, hot drinks, meals and support in true Tassie spirit.

Stay safe, everyone.

We’re very happy to share that Lachlan Bird has officially joined ADEC Kedge full-time as a Naval Architect. ⚓️

After completing his internship with us last year, he returned to AMC to finish his studies, and we’re proud to welcome him back as he starts his professional journey in naval architecture and begins working toward marine surveyor accreditation.

Loki brings a thoughtful, methodical approach to design, a genuine interest in the commercial vessel sector, and the kind of curiosity that strengthens engineering teams. It’s been great watching his confidence and capability grow, and we’re looking forward to supporting his development.

And since it happens to be his birthday today… Happy birthday, Loki.

Welcome aboard, again.

Some vessels carry a history you can feel as soon as you step aboard. The 𝘈𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘩𝘰𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳 is one of them. ⚓️

Built in Fremantle to an exceptional standard, she first worked as a charter vessel in the Abrolhos Islands before making her way to Tasmania in the late 1980s. Since then, she’s spent decades supporting local industries as a cray boat and mother ship for abalone divers.

Our team recently completed both the In-Water and Out-of-Water components of her Renewal Survey, helping keep this 18.9-metre timber vessel in 3B survey.
