I’d like to introduce a couple of silent owners of my farming business & share a photo that I took.
For the purpose of this exercise, we’ll call them Bill & Ben… (afterall, it’s not a lie — I’ve just changed my position on their names..).
These two first came onboard around May 2022 as silent owners of the operation, owning roughly around the same percentage as the tax rate.. I had other part owners in mind but these two showed up one Saturday night...
At first they promised(for about the 50th time… & after a pretty simple question..) they’d just ride shotgun as passengers.
But I’d say “dead weight” is probably more accurate..
I gave them a couple of simple rules:
✅ Don’t touch the controls
✅ Don’t move any fence lines
✅ Don’t run into anything in the paddock
✅️ Don't play with settings
✅️ Don't change the position on anything..
But ever since then… everything’s just felt that little bit heavier. Almost like the whole country’s slowly ground to a halt around me & even going backwards.. at almost a trillion times faster than it was..
Fuel heavier.
Fertiliser heavier.
Chemical heavier.
Power heavier.
Tax heavier.
Rates heavier.
Repairs & maintenance heavier.
Other inputs heavier..
Even the owner, heavier…
Then somewhere across the paddock this week around Tuesday night.. things have got completely out of whack. They’ve taken over & ran into a few things:
💥 Negative gearing — clipped it & buried her somewhere behind us..
💥 CGT — smacked it & she's gone off into the distance..
💥 Trust tax rules — fell off & running through the neighbour’s paddock on fire..
Cant wait for the next 12 months.. hopefully the show's still got tyres under it & upright... But one thing is for certain, these two turkeys will still have a thumbs up & will still keep smiling..
