The Sydney Hills Garden competition is currently open for entries, and Glenhaven has been home to winners in years gone past.

There are several categories, ranging from residential, small-lot gardens, Seniors’ full gardens, villa or courtyard gardens, speciality or good neighbour gardens.

The competition is part of The Hills Shire's Orange Blossom Festival and is open to gardens in The Hills Shire or in the adjoining parts of the suburbs of North Rocks, Carlingford, Northmead, Winston Hills, Baulkham Hills, West Pennant Hills, Cherrybrook, Glenhaven, Dural, Arcadia, Galston or Glenorie. It is a project of the Rotary Club of Hills-Kellyville and receives great support from The Hills Shire Council & local sponsors.

Submissions close September 25th.

Living Choice is proud to partner with the Berowra Woodchop Festival, a fantastic community event hosted by Berowra Apex that raises funds for local community initiatives.

A Local Landmark - Bella Vista Farm Park. Set in 20 hectares of rural landscape, Bella Vista Farm, located at Elizabeth Macarthur Drive, Bella Vista is an intact historic farm complex of cultural significance to the nation.

The next Open Day is 6th September, from 9am -2pm .
It will feature Devonshire Tea, Jumble Sales, Plant Stalls and the chance to explore the beautiful homestead and grounds.

Just a short distance from Living Choice Glenhaven, The Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the Hills District's most important community organisations, dedicated to protecting and caring for Australia's native wildlife.
The Sanctuary's passionate team of staff and volunteers rescues, rehabilitates and cares for injured, orphaned and displaced native animals, with the aim of returning them to the wild whenever possible. Their work extends beyond wildlife care, playing an important role in conservation, education and community awareness throughout the region. As a not-for-profit organisation, the Sanctuary relies on the support of volunteers and the local community to continue its important work. It's a wonderful example of the people and organisations that help make the Hills District such a special place to call home.
Whether you're a wildlife enthusiast or simply enjoy being connected to the local community, The Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a neighbour worth getting to know.

Living Choice will be at The Hills District Retirement Village and Resort Expo this Sunday and Monday. Hosted at Castle Hill RSL, it is a wonderful opportunity to speak to the team and ask questions about our villages, communities and lifestyle we offer. We look forward to seeing you there.

The 11th Annual Living Choice Glenhaven Writer’s Festival.

It was back in February that Lorna Clayton meet with Carol and Les Clayton to discuss this year’s Writer’s Festival. Lorna explained that she would have difficulty running the event this year and that she and Gail were very keen for the festival to continue.
So, we volunteered to make sure it would happen, with Lorna and Carol looking after the speaker content and Les the logistics of the day (of which there are many).

The date was set for Friday 12 June and the first task was securing the two external speakers. Lorna quickly secured James O’Loghlin, the author and ABC presenter, and Carol secured Barry Parezzer, a long-time friend, who has self-published 8 books.

Maurice York was “persuaded” into telling us if AI is scary or not.

We knew there would be no shortage of fine contributions from the two residents’ writers’ groups and so it proved to be.

Next job was asking a number of residents to “volunteer” for various jobs both before and on the day. As is usually the case on our village, everyone quickly offered their help. So too did our wonderful Social Club committee members who ensured morning tea and lunch was served seamlessly.

And so, at 9.30 on Friday 12 July Carol opened the meeting and the day flowed with interesting, educational, humorous, thought provoking and varied presentations, a credit to all of our presenters.
The afternoon was dedicated to the presentations of our writers interspersed by a “Who am I” quiz.
It was then time to draw some prizes and to thank:
-The one hundred residents and visitors who attended
-Living Choice and our wonderful Glenhaven staff
-Our social committee
-Maurice York for all his audio/visual hard work
-Numerous residents who willing gave their time
-Our talented writers

The happy faces and chatter indicated all had enjoyed the day. Now we have to repeat it next year!

Did you know: In 1911, Australian Census collectors visited people by foot, bicycle, and on horseback. Times have certainly changed.

For the 2026 Census it is set for Tuesday the 11th of August.
The ABS will provide instructions soon on how to complete the census.

The preferred option for completion is online. You can also access
information through your MyGov app on your device. Or directly
through the ABS website. Paper options will still be available upon
request. We will keep Residents in the loop as more information comes to hand.
